New School Immunization Requirements
Wisconsin has updated its immunization requirements for school entry. These updates, which align with national vaccine recommendations, aim to improve the health and safety of children, educators, and staff.
Key Changes:
Meningococcal Vaccine: Required for students entering seventh grade, with a booster for those entering 12th grade.
Chickenpox Vaccine: A health care provider's diagnosis is now required for exemption from the chickenpox vaccine, rather than just a parent's report.
What Remains Unchanged:
Exemptions for medical, religious, or personal reasons are still available.
There is no requirement for flu or COVID-19 vaccines, though they are strongly recommended.
As you register your middle or high school student for school, Infinite Campus may alert you that your student’s immunizations are not up to date. This is due to the new immunization law changes. Please send an updated immunization record to your secondary student’s school main office or health room by September 23rd. You can get your student’s immunization records from their medical provider or by looking your student up on the Wisconsin Immunization Registry website. If you choose not to have your student vaccinated, you must complete an immunization waiver.
If you have any questions about immunization requirements for school or need help accessing resources for immunizations for your student, please contact your school nurse - Katelyn Lasse, MPH, BSN, RN, NCSN Wauwatosa School District Nurse - phone: (414) 773-1961 - lasseka@wauwatosa.k12.wi.us
