November Updates
Dear Caregivers & Families,
A couple of weeks ago, our students and educators participated in the annual Cardinals Give Back Day. This opportunity was well received by our community members, educators, and students. Our Advisory program is four sessions in, and we received lots of positive feedback from students and educators. We look forward to continue to strengthen relationships between students and educators to continue to develop a sense of belonging within our school.

Spotlight on a FJSHS Staff Member
Thank you to everyone who has shared the positive impact our staff members have had on your children. When sharing these with our staff members, there is are a lot of emotions that come up. One of the most common is surprised. Staff are working hard every day making a difference and that positive impact is not always communication. When it finally is, staff are surprised on how some of the smallest gestures can have the biggest effect. Please continue to share your perspectives on how our staff is making a difference in the lives of our future leaders.
Again, please consider recognizing one of our staff members whenever you hear the impact they have had on your student by completing the Staff Recognition Form.

THE RIGHT DEFINITION OF SUCCESS CAN MAKE YOU FEARLESS
"Please help my child to stop being afraid of making a mistake." In my thirty years of doing summer basketball camps, this was one of the most common requests I received from the mothers of our young campers. It is also a fear that handicapped many competent adult employees I managed.
Getting youngsters and adults to understand that: The people who don’t make mistakes are the people who don’t do anything is a good first step to get rid of this fear of making a mistake.
The second fear to overcome is the fear of the outcome of any competitive event, whether it is a sporting event or a sales contest. This is a fear the general public suffers from because in the media: either you win or you lose.
Fight On!

Importance of Sleep
Please encourage your child to get a good night sleep. Teenagers need between 8-10 hours of sleep. Sleep is important for teens because it helps with:
- Brain development: Sleep supports a teen's developing brain and physical growth spurts.
- Mental health: Sleep deprivation can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
- Academic performance: Getting enough sleep helps teens do well in school.
- Physical health: Sleep helps the body repair itself, prevent infections, and rebuild muscles.
If you feel like your child needs help to support them with sleep, please check out the following Sleep Presentation
