Hungate Echo
Autumn Term 2, Week 4
A word from Mr Broom
With only three weeks left of the Autumn Term, we feel the anticipation of the festive season upon us. Our teachers have been working hard on the plans for this holiday season, including the Christmas Fair, Carols around the Christmas Tree and of course, our extra special nativities.
Meanwhile, you will most definitely have heard about Drumba; the new musical exercise curriculum that we have introduced in the past couple of weeks. These first few sessions have been a huge success and I'm sure Drumba will continue to grow at SHP.
I've also had the pleasure of teaching both our amazing Jellyfish (Reception) and Year 5 children this week, while their teachers have had planning time. I love getting into the classroom and it's brilliant to see such wonderful young people enjoying their learning.
Have a super weekend everyone.

Car Parking
Please see the letter below from NYCC regarding parking. Please do not use the disabled parking bays outside The Harold Mills Centre unless displaying a valid blue badge. Parking on the pavements, blocking the entrance of the community center or parking on the grass outside the community center is not acceptable. We are aware of the cars that repeatedly park in a disrespectful and unsafe manner and will be forwarding these on to North Yorkshire Police if this continues.
Sponsored Elf Run!
On Friday 6th December the children at Sherburn Hungate Primary School are taking part in a fun sponsored Elf Run to raise funds for St Leonard's Hospice.
St Leonard’s Hospice provides care and support for people with life limiting illnesses and their families when they need it most, and we’ve been doing it for 39 years. Our patients’ needs are our priority, and our care is designed to make the best of their lives. We provide care at our Hospice, in patients’ homes, and in our community.
We provide care for free, but it’s not free to provide. It costs £7.9 million a year, and just a quarter of that comes from the government. We rely on the generosity of our community for the rest. Your donation means we can be here to help more people in York and surrounding areas when they need us most.
We can’t wait to see all the fun the children get up to! All funds Sherburn Hungate Primary School raise are greatly appreciated and will help us to continue to provide our expert care and support:
• £2 could buy tea bags, giving family members a much-needed brew during difficult conversations
• £25 could buy a memory box, helping a child who has lost a parent to gather and save special memories
• As a school, raising £100 could help patients stay pain free and focused on spending time with their loved ones while they still can
Poppy Appeal
The children, parents and staff raised an incredible £429.49 for the Poppy Appeal which is the most we have ever raised for the Poppy Appeal. A massive thank you all that donated to such an amazing cause!

Redeem your vouchers for free holiday activities and food this Christmas
On Monday 25th November we issued vouchers to all families whose children/young people are eligible for free places on FEAST activities this Christmas. You should have received this via email or text, from a platform called Holiday Activities. Follow the link in this email/text to redeem your voucher and book your child’s place on some of the fantastic activities on offer in our area.
Don’t worry if there’s a waiting list - it doesn’t always mean that an activity is full. To ensure that a wide range of families get to take part in FEAST, providers to wait a number of days after vouchers are issued before accepting any bookings. Please request a place and you should receive a notification from Holiday Activities if your place is confirmed.
If you believe your child is eligible and you have not yet received your voucher, or you have lost it, please contact the school office.
To learn more about FEAST, and for information on activities, eligibility and how to manage your bookings, visit the website https://northyorkshiretogether.co.uk/feast-activities/
Internet Safety
Keeping an eye on your child online
There's been a few incidents that have come to our attention recently, where children have acted inappropriately or accessed content online at home, that isn't appropriate for their age and stage of development. At this stage, we're asking parents/carers to be extra-vigilant and keep a very close eye on what your child accesses on their devices. Thank you for supporting us with this internet safety drive.
We welcome food and drink tombola prizes for the Christmas Market. Please leave any tasty donations in the school office. Thank you in advance! 🎅🏼🎄🌟

Staff Shoutouts
Staff shoutouts are back for 24-25 and there's no better way of helping to keep our staff morale high than letting them know how you think.
Happy Staff + Happy Children = Happy Family.
If you can spare a minute or two to let someone know how great they are, it would be much appreciated, especially at this challenging time for us all. Thank you.
