Soaring to Success: The Interconnectedness of Learning
Come join us on the evening of November 8 for two hours (6-8 pm) for an exploration of the interconnectedness of learning. Math and reading make a strong foundation, but what else can take flight?
We will begin with an activity with paper airplanes that bridges math with critical thinking, engineering, and a cooperative mindset. (30 min.) Next, Nature's Educators will show us how they use math in their care and rehabilitation of birds of prey (1 hour). Finally, families will be free to browse fun math resources to take home. (30 min.) You can pick up number cards and dice along with multiple copies of fun activities to help you build strong math foundations at home. There will even be hand outs of picture book titles that support math concepts as well (bridging reading and mathematics).
Space is limited! You must RSVP so that we can plan accordingly for this fun event. The RSVP window will close Wednesday, November 6 at the end of our school day (3:00 p.m.).
When we connect our understanding, learning can truly take flight. Come fly with us!
November Coffee with the Principals
Join Ms. Fahey and Mr. Molina for coffee and bagels on Friday, November 22nd from 8:00-9:00 a.m. We love getting to know our families better through these get togethers AND we love sharing the great things happening at Rudy!
New Eyeglasses
If your son or daughter is in need of glasses or they need an eye exam, please contact the school nurse for a 'vision voucher'. There are other community resources available for your health care needs so don't hesitate to inquire.
Musical Notes for November
Rudy 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade musicians are learning to play ukulele. We know three chords and many fun songs which we sing and play. Our wonderful PTA purchased an additional five ukuleles! Now we have 15 instruments which allows students to work in pairs by alternating coaching or playing. Also, we are learning the “math” of music with rhythms through pie charts and kitchen measuring tools (the whole note is the gallon, the half note is like the half gallon, the quarter note is like the quart, the eighth note is the pint, and the sixteenth note is a cup).
The Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade musicians are learning to compose rhythm patterns in ABBA form. Also, we are learning many nursery rhymes in song with instrumental accompaniment. The children create their own Introduction, Interlude, and Coda. We know all about Forte / Piano and Presto / Largo. I hope you are hearing much singing at home!
