The Connection Week 4 Term 3
Huapai District School 18th August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
This has been a big week for our school with the a’thon, cross country and a powhiri welcoming new students and families. It is just great to be able to continue building normality back into the school. We recently conducted a review with students around well-being. It was good to see that COVID does not seem to present as a significant worry for children.
This is not to say it has not had an impact, I think it shows the manner in which it has been approached, dealt with and now reduced to a reality we manage. I also think it speaks volumes to the character and resilience of our children.
Thank you for the support we have seen this week with attendance at the cross country, the fundraising through our a’thon and the way you get behind your children and their teacher(s).
As a small note: In our review of the cross country we have identified we could do better with the food options at the BBQ’s - our apologies to those children who for various reasons were not able to eat the sausages provided - we will look for alternatives in future events.
Have a great week.
John Petrie
Principal

Student Of The Week
Reve (Year 3) says: “Our school is the best school ever! There are so many people and it’s easy to make friends. In class my favourite thing to do is writing. I really like “free writing” time so I can write about anything I like. I love to go on the bike track at school. Other kids should come here ‘cos it’s the best school.”
Math-A-Thon
Thank you for the support you are showing your child by helping them learn their maths facts from the booklet. This week the children have been tested on what they know.
If your child has been collecting sponsorship money, you can now bring this into the School Office. Please ensure it is in a sealed enveloped or zip lock bag, with your child’s full name, room number and the total amount contained inside. Alternatively, you can also pay your sponsorship amount via our give-a-little page, linked below. Please state your child’s name when donating so we can see who the payment is in relation to.
Cross Country
What a fantastic day! It is always great to see children stretch outside their comfort zone and try something challenging. There is something really special about having our seniors step up to support our juniors to be independent and enjoy their successes. Thank you to the adults who were cheering on the sidelines. It is a great testament to our fantastic community when we have parents encouraging all the children to do their best, not just their own children. I think we may just have to have a parents cross country group too next year…watch this space.
Chicken Pox
We have had two cases of chickenpox in the last fortnight. Parents in the affected year groups have been emailed. This is very common in childhood, however as chickenpox is contagious from 1–2 days before the blisters appear, we do like to advise families.
People with chickenpox have small blisters (like a rash) on their skin. These can be very itchy.
Other symptoms of chickenpox are:
tiredness
fever
general aches and pains
Please take a moment tonight to check your child.
Quiz Night
It’s back and bigger than ever! If you came last year, you’ll know what an amazing community event this is. A great way to get to know families in the area, a chance for your business to shine and a fabulous evening out with friends and family. Tickets will sell quickly, so please start lining up your team members.
Tables will only be $300, seating up to 10 people.
Please enter the date into your diary now - Friday 14th October.
*Please note that tickets are not yet available - but will be soon!
