From the Principal
Kia ora koutou katoa - Greetings to you all
What a fantastic start to the term. As always, time is moving quickly and we are well into the swing of things. The classrooms are feeling settled and the children are happy and busy with their learning.
Our school triathlon was a success! Thanks for all the parent support on the day, the children enjoyed having you there to take part in the fun and cheer them on. Looking at next year we will run it very similar, but we will add in a competitive race with a longer track for those students who are interested.
For Ash Wednesday we celebrated with a special mass at Church where all students received an ash on their forehead. The ashes are traditionally made from the burned psalms of last year's Psalm Sunday. Christians wear the ash as a sign of repentance. Our students were amazing and showed great reverence during the service. It was great to see some of our families there in support also. Coming up soon is our Student Leadership Mass, more information regarding this will be sent out closer to the time.
It has been a pleasure seeing some of the school families and children attending Church services. We are blessed to have a wonderful partnership with the Parish and we would love to see more of you there. Sunday Mass starts at 10:30am if you wish to join.
Keep an eye out for more of the amazing things happening this term.

A Message From Our DRS
FAITH FACTS
As we embark on the sacred journey of Lent, we are reminded of the significance of preparation in our spiritual lives. This week, we turn our attention to "Time for Preparation Te Wā mō te Takatū."
In the Gospel reading from Mark 1:9-15, we journey with Jesus into the desert, where He spends 40 days in preparation for Easter. It's a time of reflection, self-examination, and readiness for the transformative journey ahead.
In line with the theme of preparation, the Caritas (Caritas supports our teaching and assists fundraising within our Catholic schools ) story introduces us to Tebora and our local partner, Teitoiningaina. Discover how they exemplify the Catholic social teaching principle of stewardship by demonstrating a deep commitment to caring for our neighbours and our planet. Together, let's make this Lent a time of profound growth and renewal.
The Catholic social teaching principle of stewardship – kaitiakitanga – is about being responsible guardians. We are kaitiaki - guardians of the earth. Exercising stewardship is caring for the gifts God has given us, including the environment, our own personal talents and other resources. How can our students be stewards within our community?

What's been happening in our Kura
KAPA HAKA
We are super excited to have Whaea Rae back with us! The students always enjoy the new singing, korero and learning. We are blessed that Whaea Rae will be with us every Friday working with the whole school to begin with. Throughout the year we hope to split the time so Whaea can work with a core group to help be our Kapa Haka Leaders for our school.
LOOSE PARTS PLAY
We are starting to gather and purchase a selection of bits and bobs for our loose parts play programme. We decided to put some of the blocks and beams out at break and let the kids use their own ideas to create some play. Lots of discussion, team work, ideas and school values were on show today. My favourite part was watching the seniors awhi our juniors and watching the creation adapt and grow at lunch break. No teacher intervention was needed at all.
KELLY SPORTS
Every Monday Carl from Kelly Sports comes in and works with each class, teaching fundamental skills through games, activties and fun. We have been focusing on our throwing and catching skills this week.

Welcome to 2024
Look at all these busy little people working together in the sandpit! We owe a huge thanks to Alicia and Josh Saunders who arranged a working bee in our school grounds over the Christmas holidays. A team of workers from Fulton Hogan came in and put in some hard mahi cleaning up and doing maintenance for us. As you can see a highlight of this is they got rid of all the yucky old sand and bought in a load of lovely fresh sand that was kindly donated by Jones Quarry. The students are now spending hours in there every week, not only having fun but they are also learning some invaluable life skills that an environment such as a sandpit has to offer. So a massive thank you to all those involved.
We have our Easter raffle coming up later in the term, there will be a mufti day on Thursday the 7 th of March, we are asking for a donation of an Easter treat to go into the hamper for the raffle. Tickets will come home on 11 March, we really appreciate your efforts in selling these, all proceeds come directly back to benefit the students.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 6 March at 6.30pm in the school hall.

The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our board of trustees has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review.
