Dinosaur Fossils with Miss Courter
Miss Courter's class just completed their Knowledge unit on History of the Earth! They learned about rocks, the layers of Earth, minerals, fossils, and dinosaurs. The class ended their unit by creating their own fossils using toy dinosaurs and playdoh!
Cupid Spreads love in Kindergarten
Mrs. Hajes' Kindergarten class read "The Night Before Valentine's Day" and came up with 3 persuasive reasons why it would be a good idea for Mr. Rush to dress up as cupid. We had one student, Kennedy Holmes, present the three reasons to him in front of the class. :) Our 3 reasons were, 1. It's Valentine's Day 2. Its funny! 3. He would be so cute! The class then had a special visit from Cupid himself.
Specials Showcase
Black History Month in Library, Art, & Music
Mrs. Fisher, Miss Ferguson, and Miss Matheny collaborated together for Black History Month during their specials. In library, third grade read Trombone Shorty by famous musician, Troy Andrews who was recently featured at the Super Bowl. In music, students got to listen and learn a dance to go along with his song, Hurricane Season. Here is Mrs. Windle's 3rd grade class doing the dance!
First grade classes at library read Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold, based on her story quilt of the same name. At art, Ms. Ferguson guided students in an imaginative project drawing from the book’s themes of freedom and dreams. Students created flying self-portraits depicting themselves soaring over meaningful places in their lives. Mrs. Heidlebaugh's class portraits are featured below.
Counselor's Corner
Honesty is my Superpower!
Honesty means we are truthful in what we say and do. Honesty is the basis of a trusting relationship. For our youngest learners, honesty looks like responding truthfully when asked about a situation and sharing important information with trusted adults. Some important discussions to have with our children include:
Always do your own work. Do not cheat. We don’t know what you know if you are using someone else’s answers.
Always return anything that you borrow and be sure to ask the other person before taking something that belongs to them.
Lying about anything breaks trust. It is always better to be honest with myself and others.
Being honest helps others trust us.
Watch the video below of the read aloud, Honesty is my Superpower, to learn more about the importance of honesty.
Leader In Me
Think Win-Win
This week, we learned about Habit 4: Think Win-Win (Everyone Can Win). We focused on the four relationship attitudes: win-lose, lose-win, lose-lose, and win-win. Here is third grade synergizing together on solving conflicts they face in their classrooms with a win-win. Invite your learner to teach you all about the four relationship attitudes and why using a win-win attitude is best for solving challenges! Use the resource to learn more about how to Think Win-Win as a family.

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
