An e-newsletter from Pinewood Elementary School

February 28th, 2025
Dear Pinewood Families,
As we transition from winter to spring, the changing weather reminds us of the excitement and renewal this season brings. It's a time of growth, not only for the budding flowers outside but for our students and staff as well. We are so grateful for the continued support from our school community as we work together to nurture the growth and development of every child.
We love sharing that growth with you during conferences. It's not too late to sign up with your child's teacher. We encourage you to take advantage of this time to connect with your child’s teacher, share insights, and ask any questions you may have. If you are unable to make it on March 6th, please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a different time for this meeting.
We want to express our sincere thankfulness for the ongoing collaboration between home and school. Your dedication and involvement in your child’s education make such a difference. Thank you for your continued partnership. Let us know if there's anything we can be doing to support your family and our students!
Here's to a Magnificent March with our Pinewood Pandas!

Temporary Pinewood Power Outage Today
A neighborhood power outage temporarily affected Pinewood today . Our school was without electricity as we started school, but power was restored around 11:45 a.m., and our day continued as normal. We apologize for this inconvenience and disruption to our students, parents and staff. We appreciated the cooperation and patience of our students, staff and volunteers today.
Ramadan Mubarak!
Pinewood knows that March and April are exciting times for our families who celebrate Ramadan, and we want to partner with you to make this fasting season go smoothly. We understand that many younger students may not fast, but if your child plans to, please reach out to your child’s teacher as soon as possible so we can make any necessary accommodations. If we don’t hear from a parent or caregiver, we’ll assume your child will be eating lunch at Pinewood.
4th Grade art at Churchill St!
During the month of March, 4th grade Pinewood Artists will have their artwork displayed at Churchill St in Shoreview! They have been working hard to create colorful cityscape projects using two different methods of printmaking, and I am so excited that they will be shared with our community! Stop by to check them out throughout the month of March.

SUMMER BAND DATES: JULY 7 - JULY 31
CURRENT BAND STUDENTS
When you begin to make your summer vacation plans, please keep in mind the summer band program offered for students going into 6th grade. For students who are currently playing in 5th grade band, INTRODUCTION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND is a full band rehearsal offered Mondays-Thursdays for four weeks from 12:00-12:45 at Chippewa, Edgewood. The program concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Online registration will be available through Community Education beginning March 18.
ATTENTION 4TH GRADE PARENTS
Starting the summer after 4th grade your child can begin participating in a curricular activity that continues through 12th grade and into adult life - THE SCHOOL BAND.
The summer beginning band instruction program consists of 45-minute small-group lessons, Monday through Thursday, for four weeks starting Monday, July 7 through Thursday, July 31. The summer session concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Instruction will be offered at Island Lake, Turtle Lake, and Edgewood during the mornings and at Chippewa and HighviewEdgewood in the evenings. Students may choose from the following band instruments: Trombone, Baritone, Clarinet, Trumpet, French Horn, Flute, Saxophone, Tuba and Percussion. School instruments are available for students with financial need. Your school band teacher will be sending information home with your child in March. Specific information about summer band class times and locations will be available at that time.
Online registration will be available through Community Education beginning on Tuesday, March 18. You may also attend one of the Band Information Nights:
Tuesday, March 18 at Irondale High School
Thursday, April 3 at Chippewa Middle School
Stop by anytime between 5:00-7:00 PM to meet our district band directors if you’d like assistance with registration and to rent a band instrument through one of our reputable music vendors.
HERE are some additional FAQs that may answer any other questions you have.
A WORD OF CAUTION:
There has been a recent outbreak in instrument sales from non-music vendors (department store catalogs, discount membership warehouses, on-line purchases and private party sales). These instruments are often inexpensive and poorly constructed. These instruments generally require frequent repairs that cannot be corrected and we encourage you to stay clear of these options. Reputable music dealers are the best resource for renting or purchasing a band instrument. Please see your school band director if you have questions about purchasing an instrument.
VALLEY FAIR BAND DAY
All summer band students are invited to attend Valley Fair on Friday, August 2 for a concert and fun at the park. More details will be available soon.
