Dr. Stewart's Community Update
December 8, 2023
Dear AWRSD students, staff and families,
Thank you for another positive and productive week of learning. It’s hard to believe it is already December and students have been in school for 67 days (over 1/3 of the school year)!
In the coming weeks, all of our schools will be holding their annual Winter Concerts. These concerts are free and open to the public. If you’ve never been, I highly encourage you to attend one if you are able. All concerts take place in the Oakmont Regional High School Auditorium.
Westminster Elementary School – 12/13/2023 – 6:30pm
JR Briggs Elementary School – 12/14/2023 – 7:00pm
Overlook Middle School – 12/20/2023 – 7:00pm
Oakmont Regional High School – 12/21/2023 – 7:00pm
Report cards have been published in the parent portal for all elementary schools. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s report card or academic progress, please reach out to their school.
While this is a very exciting time of year for many students, we are mindful that it can be very stressful as well. If your child is experiencing high stress levels or anxiousness, please reach out to your child’s school. We have staff available to meet with your child and talk about strategies that can be beneficial to them.
As a reminder, Winter Break begins December 25, 2023. School resumes on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
As always, thank you for your continued collaboration and support. I wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Todd Stewart
Superintendent of Schools
7th grade students took their shoes off to walk across a 30x30 vinyl floor map of Europe. Many students exclaimed "it's so big" as they entered the library. Students participated in hands-on activities to find countries, cities, mountains and bodies of water along with other geographical features of Europe. It really brings out a student's natural curiosity and creates memorable connections with what is being taught in the classroom, said Sarah Duncan one of the teachers using the giant map. Thank you to Bridgewater State University for lending the traveling floor map to Overlook Middle School.
