Early Reading
Our reading teachers are partnering with our kindergarten classrooms, in teaching students about the tools they have to produce and identify sounds. This is part of our work to connect language and literacy development using our sound walls. Students are learning about the difference between quiet and noisy sounds. This helps them to produce sounds and differentiate between similar sounds.
Our students are learning about what it means to be Responsible community members. On Monday, we held our first monthly character education assembly. During our STARS assembly students learned about expected and unexpected behaviors.
When students demonstrate STAR behaviors in the classroom, during lunch/recess, in the hallway, and on the bus they may earn STARS tickets. STAR totals are recorded on the classroom STAR jars and students are recognized for their personal and class accomplishments. with school-wide announcements, certificates, and class-selected activities.
The purpose of the STARS initiative is to encourage children to behave in ways that help them become positive contributors to our school community. By rewarding their efforts, we hope to encourage positive behaviors by emphasizing the importance of contributing to a Responsible, Respectful, and Safe building-wide culture.
Celebrating Our Heritage
As part of building our classroom communities, our teachers would love to learn more about your family heritage and your rich and interesting cultural heritage. We would also love to hear more about how you might like to share your family traditions with our students in school. We appreciate you taking the time to help by completing the questionnaire below. Please complete the questionnaire prior to October 4th. Thank you.
