Message from Mrs. Hawkins
April 2024
Lincoln Families and Friends,
I hope everyone enjoys Spring Break this year. This is an opportunity for students and staff to rest and recharge their batteries for the last two months of the school year. We have lots of learning to do!
April is the month when students in Minnesota take the MCA tests in Math, Reading, and Science. Students have been working all year and now they have the opportunity to show what they have learned. Please help us by getting your student to school on time and mentally prepared to take the tests. Teachers will be sharing specific days and times when their students will be testing, but a general schedule is below:
Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade:
Reading: April 15, 16, 17, and 18
Math: April 23 and 24
5th grade students only:
Science: April 29 and 30
Official results from MCA tests are not available until summer, but this information will help us to establish goals for next school year. The individual student assessment information will also help teachers plan effective instruction for your child. We have many other assessments that also guide us in supporting instruction. It is important to consider daily classroom assessments and observations along with FastBridge Benchmark Assessments when trying to get a full picture of our student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
As most of you know, I will be retiring as the Lincoln School Principal at the end of the school year. A new principal has been appointed. Mr. Justin Lang will take over starting July 1st. Mr. Lang is currently a teacher at McKinley and has been the administrator for the Owatonna Summer School Program. I am looking forward to working with Justin during the transition.
Mary Hawkins, Lincoln Principal

2024-2025 Classroom Input Forms
As we prepare for the next school year, our staff takes a tremendous amount of time and thought in developing classroom placements. There are many variables to keep in mind including balance of gender, relationships, student academic needs, overall enrollment, social and leadership skills, and much more. Ultimately, we strive to create classroom placements that will enhance each child’s opportunity for success. If parents want to share specific information about their child that would be helpful in this process, they must complete a Classroom Input Form. We will take parents’ input into account, but we need parents to use this written process as we must have the information.
The classroom input form for 2024-2025 will be available for pick up in the office on March 12th. Please fill them out and return to the Lincoln office before Friday, April 12th.
