From the Principal's Desk—
Hello Hilltopper Families!
Our students had a great time taking part in Kindness Week this week. Mrs. Barnett kicked off the festivities dressed as a spy and delivered TOP SECRET kindness activities to classes.
Throughout the week, our students engaged in various activities designed to promote kindness. One of my favorites was “SURPRISE TEACHER POPCORN” in the cafeteria for students selected for Toppering Up! The planned themes for each day were a big hit with students and staff! There was also a coloring contest where winning students in each grade level get to take home an adorable squishy stuffed toy. Winners will be announced next week.
I encourage you to join in Kindness Week by discussing the importance of kindness at home and encouraging simple acts of goodwill. TOGETHER we can create an atmosphere where kindness becomes a way of life!
At Park, we’re spreading kindness like confetti!
Enjoy the LONG weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Makee
We are having a school-wide coloring contest to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th. Three students from each grade will win a cute stuffies! Winners will be announced on Monday, February 17th!
Blizzard Bags
Since we have reached our 5th calamity day, we want to inform you about our Blizzard Bag Plan for Park Elementary which went home.
We are providing Blizzard Bags to your child in the event of inclement weather resulting in a school closure. This will enable your child to continue their learning at home. These bags will contain TWO DAYS WORTH of assignments and activities that align with their current curriculum. Your child's teacher will provide instructions, and we encourage you to engage with your child in completing these assignments to ensure continuity in their education. You will have 10 school days to complete each day's Blizzard Bag assignments. For example, if we have a snow day on March 1, the bag would be due on March 15th.
We appreciate your support in making learning a collaborative effort, even on snow days. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the school office.
Stay warm and safe!
Please send in a picture!
Park Parents and Guardians,
Please help us celebrate and decorate for our One School One Book festivities. We are asking for a picture (4x6 please) of your student with their pet(s) or favorite stuffy, if you don’t have any pets.
These can be sent in to your child’s teacher anytime between now and Feb. 21.
A big thank you from the OSOB Committee!

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM THE CLINIC:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we navigate this winter season, it's crucial to stay vigilant about preventing the spread of illness within our school community. We encourage you to review these important guidelines regarding student health and when to keep your child home from school:
When to Keep Your Child Home:
- Fever:
If your child has a fever above 100°F (37.8°C) without clear improvement after taking medication, please keep them home until fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
- Contagious Symptoms:
If your child exhibits symptoms of a contagious illness like cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, or pink eye, keep them home until symptoms subside and they are no longer contagious according to their doctor's advice.
Important Hygiene Practices:
- Frequent Handwashing:
Encourage your child to wash their hands often with soap and water, especially before eating, after using the restroom, and after playing outdoors.
- Cover Coughs and Sneezes:
Teach your child to cough or sneeze into their elbow or a tissue, and dispose of used tissues properly.
- Stay Hydrated:
Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids throughout the day to support their immune system.
Communicate with the School Nurse:
- Report Illnesses:
If your child is absent due to illness, please notify the school office with the reason for their absence.
- Consult for Concerns:
If you have any questions or concerns about your child's health, contact the school nurse for guidance.
Preventative Measures:
- Vaccinations:
Ensure your child is up-to-date on all recommended vaccinations, including the annual flu shot.
- Healthy Lifestyle:
Promote a balanced diet, regular exercise, and sufficient sleep to maintain overall health and immunity.
Together, we can create a healthy school environment by following these guidelines. Please reach out to our clinic team if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued help in keeping our schools healthy.
