From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
WOW - what a great week in the Winter Park Band! We are so incredibly proud of our students and the entire community for making the entire season a success. None of it would have been possible without hard work and dedication throughout the whole process starting back at Mini-Camp in May.
Ratings from our adjudicators at this year's Florida Bandmasters Association District 8 Marching Band MPA:
- Music Performance - Superior
- Music Performance - Superior
- Visual Performance - Superior
- General Effect - Superior
- Percussion - Superior
- Auxiliary - Superior
As we wrap up the marching band season, I'd like to again thank our Band Booster Board volunteers who all have a critical hand in making the Band program go. It is a year-long process for sure, but our marching band would not be able to do the things we do and provide the experiences we can for our students without your volunteered time, effort, and skill. It takes a VILLAGE, and all our volunteers are amazing!
- Dana Adkinson, president
- Ellen Deloach, vice president of provisions
- Robyn Fodor, vice president of fundraising
- Kim Somers, treasurer
- Laura Cambridge, chaperone coordinator
- Chris Rediske, operations chair
- Jenniffer Randolph, uniform co-chair
- Andrea Rediske, uniform co-chair
- Jennifer Mullins, color guard liaison
- Julie Capps, program sponsorships & student dedications coordinator
Mrs. Adkinson took 400 (!) pictures during our MPA day on Saturday. You can view them by clicking on this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VRPbSpaSJ9mSJTCax87sHvRjU-DghvCP?usp=sharing Thank you for being the SOTW paparazzi!
In other awesome news, 3 of our Winter Park Band students were selected to perform with this year's All-State Ensembles! Please join us in congratulating the following students:
- Ben DeLoach, alto saxophone, All-State Symphonic Band
- Henry Fu, clarinet, All-State Symphonic Band
- Zachary Rediske, clarinet, All-State Symphonic Orchestra
Thank you so much to all the parents who did the most decorating their cars for Trunk-R-Treat last Tuesday! From Abbey Road to Moo Deng, the creativity and theming was amazing!
THIS WEEK, we keep the celebration going with the entirety of our Winter Park Band community at the 10th Annual Fall Festival of Bands on Wednesday, 11/6 at 7 PM in the WPHS Auditorium. The evening includes performances by the Glenridge Middle School Symphonic Band, the Maitland Middle School Wind Ensemble, the Winter Park Wind Symphony, combined students from APS, GMS, and MMS along with the Wind Symphony, the SOTW Color Guard, and the SOTW Marching Band to top it all off! It is a night celebrating the entirety of our community, the success of our 6 - 12th grade program, and the bright future of the Sound of the Wildcats. The concert is free and open to the public, as are all our home Band concerts. A complete itinerary is available on the Band website.
Schedule Note: SOTW will rehearse Tuesday, 11/5 immediately after school until 4 PM to prepare for the Fall Festival of Bands performance. Students will be indoors in the Auditorium the entire rehearsal, and will need their flip folders. If we cover all material we need to before 4 PM, we will end rehearsal early.
Rescheduled game reminder: According to WPHS administration, the home football game originally scheduled for Thursday, 10/10, and was first rescheduled for Monday, 10/28, is now again rescheduled for Thursday, November 7 at Showalter Field. We will attend as if it were a playoff game as a full band pep band. Pep Band means that the students will perform in the stands for all 4 quarters of the game and take a halftime break. Pizza will still be sold during classes on Thursday for $1/slice, and pre-order concessions will be available with the same menu as our last home game:
All-County Auditions are fast approaching. Participation Agreements and audition registrations were due last week, so now it is time to really lock in and prep for your audition. See below for links to audition requirements, and please ask your directors for help!
Together, let's make it a great week!
Mr. Clemente

Butter Braid:
Our Butter Braid fundraiser is coming to a close on Tuesday! Congratulations to all that sold Braids and reduced their out-of-pocket costs for band and travel fees!
Please look over your paper order forms and double check that the money you’ve collected matches your paper orders.
Please bring the paper forms and money collected back to school and give to Mr. Clemente or Mrs. Deane on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday or bring to the concert Wednesday night and hand them directly to me. The orders will be submitted Thursday and there are no extensions or late orders.
There is nothing to do for your online orders. They are tracked and tallied automatically. I’ll send out another email when our delivery date is set, so be on the lookout for that.
Concert concession donations:
We plan to have concessions after the concert on Wednesday evening. We use the opportunity of having so many middle schoolers and their families in the audience to raise funds to help with our end-of-year banquet expenses.
If you’re able to donate snacks or drinks, please click the link to sign up. Donors will bring the treats to the concert and drop off in the auditorium lobby by 6:45. Thanks for your support!

Private Lessons
Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.
Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!
Below is a link to a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you are a private teacher who would like to be added to our list (or deleted), or know a private teacher who should be added, please contact Mr. Clemente at michael.clemente@ocps.net.
