WINTER EDITION | DECEMBER 2024
SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE
Thank you for taking a few moments to read about our exceptional students and staff in Center Grove. I hope all of our staff and families enjoy the upcoming Winter Break from December 23 through January 6. I am excited for our students to return on Tuesday, January 7. We have a lot of big plans for 2025, including development of a new strategic plan for our corporation. This plan will carry us through the next 2-3 years. We are working on several opportunities for our staff, families, and community members to provide us with their thoughts and ideas on the direction and goals for Center Grove. We will have large and small group feedback opportunities and a community-wide survey in February. Watch our social media channels and ParentSquare communication for more information.
I hope you have a happy holiday season!
Sincerely,
William K. Long, Ed.D.
Superintendent

CGHS students earn two State Finalists bids in national competition
A team of ten Center Grove High School students have had two projects advanced to the State Finalist round of the national Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition. Each project earns CGHS a $2,500 prize package. The team includes Sam Anderson, Luke Dagley, Blake Downen, Alexander Fan, Cinthia Garcia, Macie Pascual, Andra Veleta, Mason Vrshek, Caroline Wheatley, and Ryan Zheng. One of their projects would address the many problems wheelchair uses face when entering and exiting the device by redesigning it. They plan to develop a way to utilize motors to assist in movement, and potentially incorporate a lift and added shopping cart space. The second project aims to highlight the high amount electricity utilized by AI through a browser extension that would track a user's energy usage due to AI and promote efficient energy practices.
The team is working on activity plans for their projects. They'll find out in late January whether either or both of the projects are named State Winners.
