Harmony:
Our strings instrument program starts this Monday, October 14th. Check out the web pages listed below:

This is a message for the families of 2nd and 3rd graders who have registered with Harmony.
We are so, so excited to begin our partnership at L’Etoile du Nord French Immersion School and we’re pleased to announce that our programming will soon begin. Thank you all so much for your diligence, attentiveness, flexibility, and most of all, for your patience and enthusiasm.
Regardless of where you may find yourself in the Registration process, we’re looking forward to our upcoming morning violin and cello classes on Monday (October 14), and we’re sharing the information below so that you know what to expect:
Who – Qui – Quién
- The Harmony “Roots” Teaching Artists/instructors are Joe Kaiser (cello), Laurie McFaul (violin), and Mary Sorlie (violin; Artistic Director)—all CC’d here.
- The Harmony Program Manager is Teo—that’s me!
What – Quoi – Qué
- We call Harmony’s programming for second and third graders: “Roots.” At this stage of instruction, students develop the foundational and rudimentary skills necessary to learn to study music.
- In these first few weeks, students will try both the violin and cello. At the end of November, they’ll decide which instrument they would like to play. We did, however, also take note of your students’ stated interest—so far, 29 violins and 7 cellos. :-)
When – Quand – Cuándo
- Students need to arrive between 7:50 am and 8:00 am each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that school is in session. This means that our operating calendar matches that of Saint Paul Public Schools.
Where – Où – En dónde
- Students should enter through the Discovery Club door—this is the door to the north of the main entrance. After we’re all congregated in the Discovery Club room, our instructors will lead orderly, “Orchestra Hall” style lines to the music room of LNFI. (This is where our students will receive their classroom instruction until we solidify who plays what instruments, and once we do so, we’ll branch out to different classrooms. We’ll let you know when that happens.)
Why – Pourqoui – Por qué
- Because learning music is a joyful experience that will enrich your child’s life for years to come. Thank you for letting us be a part of that.

New Food and Treats Policy for Celebrations and Birthdays:
In many cultures, we often show our love and care through sharing food and treats. We understand how important this is, especially when it's our birthday, or a special occasion, like Halloween or Valentine's Day. However, we have a growing number of students with health and nutritional needs that can be put at risk if exposed to certain foods. Rather than excluding our students from celebrations, we would like to have all of our classrooms find ways to celebrate and have fun together in ways that do NOT involve food. If you would like for your child to share something with their classmates, please make sure it's NOT a food item. We can NOT put our students at risk. Please work with your child's teacher for some ideas that do not involve food. Thank you for keeping our students' health and safety first. Please call Principal Bossard or Mme Lessard if you have any questions or concerns.
Merci,
Sofia Bossard
