Community Spartan Weekly, Week 15
Support, Courage, Hard Work, Uplift, Responsible, Respectful
Supportive Spartans
Supportive Spartans, please support Spartan families in need. USB is collaboratively coordinating Schurr's annual "Dollars for Scholars" fundraising drive to support families in our community during the upcoming holidays. Thank you for your support.
Courageous Spartans
Courageous Spartan Girls Tennis travelled to Santa Barbara, CA, to compete in the CIF Semi-Finals. Thank you for representing Schurr through your courageous hard work and collaborative spirit.
Hardworking Spartans
Hardworking Spartans succeeded as student-athletes reaching the Semis, Quarters, 2nd Round and First Rounds of CIF. We were also Almont League Champions in Football, Flag Football, and Water Polo. We commend Fall student-athletes and coaches for their courage, hard work, and uplifting Spartan spirit!
Uplifting Spartans
Uplifting Schurr Spartan Speech and Debate competed at Gabrielino High School. Many students were in the top 10 and 20% of all competitors (see list below). We commend you for your courage, hard work, and uplifting Spartan spirit.
Responsible Spartans
Responsible Spartan, Denise Sanchez, works hard during practice causing her to have an undefeated record this season. She will take her responsible, hardworking ethic to CIF individuals. We celebrate you!
Respectful Spartans
Schurr Announcements
SCHURR Expectation of the Month: Supportive
"We come in many different shapes and sizes, and we need to support each other and our differences. Our beauty is in our differences."
-Carre Otis
Attendance Rate: Our latest attendance rate was 94.05%. Let's work hard to keep our attendance rate above 95%. Please greet students with your uplifting Spartan Spirit and engaging 4Cs learning environments. Remind them that they are loved at Schurr. Thank you for your support.
Library: Our library services through Nola Polo and Marlem Madrigal will temporarily move to the professional library. All the services we provide--checking out books and Chromebook support--are available, but in the Professional Library. We will relocate Professional Library functions to the Principal's Office or to other available spaces. Thank you for your collaborative support.
Phone Confiscation: Please inform students that we are confiscating phones from students if they are out of class during instructional time using their phones. Thank you all for your support.
Spartan Spirit
Gratitude: Thank you to Daniel Gonzalez and his theater classes for an uplifting, entertaining evening filled with laughter, suspense, and thought-provoking skits. We appreciate your critical thinking, collaboration, and communication as you made language come to life. We applaud you!
Gratitude: Thank you to our custodial staff for building additional outdoor benches on Saturday.
Gratitude: Thank you to all our Winter Sports coaches and student-athletes. We are looking forward to continued success on the fields for soccer, the pool for water polo, and the gym for basketball and wrestling. Thank you for creating spaces where we uplift our community, courageously challenge each other, and thrive together.
Gratitude: Thank you for supportively greeting students and each other when you first interact. That small moment can make a student's and person day. A "hello, ____" or "good morning, ____" goes a long way to create a safe, positive learning culture. Thank you for your uplifting Spartan spirit.
Gratitude: Thank you for continuing to hand out Spartan Bucks to students who are showing Schurr values and expectations (Supportive, Courageous, Hardworking, Uplifting, Responsible, and Respectful) and the 4Cs (Critical Thinker, Collaborator, Communicator, and Creator).
