Together, We Make Great Things Happen
For several years, I have wanted to gift our students (and the community) with a special piece of playground equipment called an "Apollo". I have seen this equipment on another playground and it is wonderful. After 10 years, the students still love it and it has been totally reliable and safe. We have talked about this in PAC meetings, but the cost was always out of reach. However, I am noticing that now may be the right time to pursue this project.
As you probably know, the budget and staffing cuts over the past few year have been difficult for us. I must commend our staff for their willingness to live within our financial means. As a result of this good stewardship, I have been able to start saving our fundraising dollars for a larger project. The fundraising dollars from this year will be added to this savings. Together we can make our playground even better for our students and for the community. See below for further details.

Change of clothes
As the snow melts and puddles begin to form, we recommend that parents send an extra pair of socks and pants along with their child in their backpack each day. If your child happens to fall into a puddle, they would be able to change into dry clothes at school without calling home each time. Just something to consider as things get messy on the playground. Thanks!
Bookfair Report
Thanks to all the staff and students who visited our bookfair this year! Thanks also to Mrs. Beaudette and the volunteers for running the event. During this event, we sold $4499.75 of books (and other products). This resulted in the Library earning a total of $2092.38 that will be directly reinvested in Library books for the students. Thanks again for your support!

World's Finest Chocolate - Apollo Fundraiser
We are excited to share our upcoming fundraising details with you! Our fundraiser this year is for a new "Apollo" play feature for the playground. Last year, we had to remove a portion of our small play structure since it proved to be unsafe for students. So, we want to add something to replace what was lost for the kids. It may take a year or two to raise enough funds to complete the project, but it will be a great addition to our play space! The fundraiser will run from March 20 until April 3.
This year, we are selling delicious World's Finest Chocolates, specifically the Gourmet Selection case. Each case includes;
12 Chocolate Covered Almonds
6 Milk Chocolate Bars With Almonds
3 Crisp Bars
3 Wafer Bars - (similar to Kit Kat)
3 Caramel Whirls
3 Mint Meltaways
Note; We also have a limited supply of cases with just Mint Meltaways or just Chocolate Covered Almonds, while supplies last. Just let us know if you prefer these options.
How does it work? On March 20, your oldest child at South Oaks School will receive one case of chocolates to take home and sell. There is no need to prepay for this case. Whatever is not sold may be returned to the school by April 1. If you wish to order additional cases at the beginning of the sale, the extra cases will need to be prepaid. (Families that don't wish to participate, just need to call the school by March 13, so that we don't send a case home with your child).
Another option for parents, instead of selling chocolates, is a donation to the school. These funds can be very helpful to the playground project. We have arranged with Hanover School Division to provide tax deductible receipts for your donations of $25.00 or more. Please stop by or call our office for details if this is what you would prefer.
Finally, we are providing some great prizes as incentive! The student with the most sales will get the first choice of the prizes, second highest seller sales gets second choice, etc. See the photos above this section for the exact prizes to be awarded.
Thanks for participating in our "Apollo" fundraiser!! Together, we can make it happen.
