Curtis Chronicles
February 26, 2024
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar Families,
We have been busy the last two weeks and have lots to share with you! First of all, we want to thank everyone for contributing to Love Week through dollar days, spirit nights or helping your child participate or watch the staff versus student basketball game! We had a great time for a great cause! Curtis Middle School donated $1582.00 to HeartWorks!
We are getting so close to our Eagle Run goal of 180 participants. If you haven’t signed up, it’s not too late! There is the sleep in option, virtual option or the traditional, get up early and come run with us option! They all count towards our goal! We would love to see you there for a great community event! The run is on March 2 and sign ups are $30 until February 29 and they will go up. Students who register receive a coupon book with some great freebies, such as front of the lunch line passes and I forgot my ID passes! Help us meet our goal and join in the fun!
We have some celebrities among our Curtis student body! We have a group of students who won 1st place in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology – Junior Division at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair! These students will move on to the state level of science fair competition! Congratulations and best of luck representing CMS at the state level! The students are Amogh Barath, Srisaiamaraditya (Adi) Kona and Roshan Ranganathan.
Our Math Counts team was recognized as the Most Improved School out of their 40 competitors and came in 7th in their state competition. Congratulations to this team for their dedication to math and science!
We want to congratulate Tahia Rashid for her winning birthday card to be used across Allen ISD from the superintendent’s office! We are so proud of her work!
Shout out to our amazing SRO team at CMS! We celebrated them last week with a delicious Hutchins BBQ lunch, but continue to celebrate them each day as they partner with us to help keep our school safe and build relationships with our students!
On April 8, we will have an opportunity to see the rare solar eclipse here in Texas. We do have plans to take our students out during max eclipse time to see in real life what they have learned about in their science classes! We will have safety precautions and learning planned for that day, but we wanted to let you know we are planning to participate in this amazing opportunity with our students. More details will be coming your way as we get closer to the event.
Please mark these dates on your calendar for state STAAR testing. We ask that you avoid scheduling appointments on these dates so students are here for testing.
April 16 – Reading grades 7 and 8
April 18 – Social Studies grade 8
April 24 – Science grade 8
April 30 – Math and Algebra grades 7 and 8
Just a reminder that we have an early release day on March 8, the Friday before Spring Break. Students will be released at 12:35 and buses will be running early that day. We hope everyone enjoys Spring Break from March 11-15!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock
