Update/ School News
- I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break because now we hit the busy time of the year. Important reminder that quarter 2 interim grades will be captured on Friday. Students without a 2.0GPA will not be eligible for after school activities.
- This is a reminder about student parking expectations at Colonel Richardson High School. All students who drive to school must park in their assigned parking spots. Parking permits are required and must be displayed at all times. Students who park without a permit or fail to park in their assigned spots will receive a sticker warning and a lunch detention for violating parking rules. We understand the need for additional parking, and we are actively working on adding more parking spaces. We anticipate these new spots will be available before the start of the second semester. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a safe and organized parking system at CRHS. If you have any questions or need assistance with obtaining a parking permit, please contact the main office.
In the upcoming weeks, students at Colonel Richardson High School will participate in the Maryland State Assessments. These assessments are a valuable opportunity for us to measure student progress, identify areas of strength, and address areas where additional support may be needed. The assessments will cover key academic areas, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, government, and Science, depending on your child’s grade level. The testing will take place during the regular school day, and we will ensure that the schedule is designed to minimize disruptions to learning.
Here’s how you can help your child prepare:
Ensure they get plenty of rest. A good night’s sleep can improve focus and performance.
Encourage healthy eating. A nutritious breakfast is a great way to start the day.
Promote a positive attitude. Reassure your child that they should simply do their best and that the tests are just one measure of their learning.
Remind them to bring any required materials: Ensure their school-issued laptops are fully charged and brought to school with their charger.
We appreciate your support in helping your child succeed during this important time. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the assessments or need assistance, please feel free to contact the School Testing Coordinator Mr. Brad Oberdorf.

Krista Allen is the TOUGH Student of the Month for the Class of 2028! The first of Krista’s two nominations came from Ms. Monteiro, who said, “Krista is an exemplary student. She is always on task and helps her teammates.” Ms. Dennis also called out Krista for treating others with respect and obtaining goals. She said: “Krista is always on task, participating in lessons, and completing her work. She does a great job showing others what it means to be Colonel TOUGH!” So far, Krista has enjoyed Mrs. Ozman’s English 9 class “because I like the books we've read so far and she teaches the class in an interesting way.” Krista put her TOUGH-ness simply: “It’s about striving to be a good student and a good person.” As an adult, Krista hopes to own and manage a real estate office.
Fun Fact: Krista likes to decorate cakes!
Jokebed Donne is the TOUGH Student of the Month for the Class of 2027! Jokebed was nominated twice this month. The first nomination came from Mrs. Bee, who said “KeKe has been working hard to obtain his goals in Biology. He asks questions about the material, advocates for himself, and always stays on task. Keep up the good work, KeKe!” Ms. Towers also recognized Jokebed’s TOUGH-ness by saying “Jokebed has worked hard to obtain goals in Government! He completes his work and asks questions when needed. He is a pleasure to have in the classroom.” According to KeKe, his favorite class is English as a Foreign Language with Mrs. Carels and Mrs. Ennals because “the teachers help me so much, I can get my work done, and I learn more English.” After graduation, KeKe wants to join the military so he can help his family and travel the world. For him, being TOUGH reminds Keke to “be respectful to others, do good in all my classes, meet my goals, know that everyone is different, and be kind to everyone.”
Fun Fact: KeKe loves to play football with his friends!
Hayden Hicks is the TOUGH Student of the Month for the Class of 2026! Mrs. Burkett nominated Mr. Hicks for treating others with respect and working to obtain his goals. She said: “Hayden is always Colonel TOUGH! Hayden TREATS OTHERS WITH RESPECT because he goes out of his way to make other people feel better. He supports his classmates in their learning, is a great friend to his peers, is consistently kind to everyone, and shows great respect for his teachers. Hayden also OBTAINS GOALS because he works very hard in English 11 to make sure each assignment is complete and turned in. Hayden asks questions for clarification and then uses that knowledge to support his classmates. He has excellent classroom participation and is a valued member of class discussions (which his teachers greatly appreciate!!)” It’s appropriate that Mrs. Burkett nominated Hayden because, according to him, she is also his favorite teacher. After high school, Hayden says he wants to “leave his options open.” When it comes to being TOUGH, Hayden said it’s all about being kind.
Fun Fact: Hayden’s talent is that he is very athletic!
Hailey Hauf is the TOUGH Student of the Month for the Class of 2025! Hailey’s nomination was sent in from Mrs. Donovan, who said “Hailey obtains her goals in class every day by working diligently on her assignments and creating quality work! She goes above and beyond when she finishes her classwork early and chooses to spend that extra time applying for scholarships! So proud of Hailey for her hard work which will undoubtedly pay off for her!” In looking back at all of her teachers, Hailey chose Mrs. Atchison as her favorite because “we got along well and she made math fun.” For Hailey, being Colonel TOUGH means “to be the best person you can be. Work hard, be kind, and have goals. The most important part for me is to obtain goals. Everyone should have a goal in life. It will be the reason why you work hard, try your hardest, and keep moving in life. It's important to have a purpose.” After high school, Hailey plans to attend Salisbury University to major in Elementary Education.
Fun Fact: Hailey’s favorite place to visit has been Gatlinburg, Tennessee!

Technology Obligations
Starting November 1, 2024, CCPS will begin to obligate students for damaged and missing technology equipment. The CCPS Student Technology Obligation Program is designed to promote students' responsible use of technology and reduce damage costs through a tier-based pricing system. This program aligns with the Technology Obligation Regulation (Reference: III.31.71R) and the CCPS Terms of Use Agreement governing the use of technology by students.
Program Objectives:
- Cost Reduction: Minimize repair and replacement costs for student-issued technology devices.
- Responsibility Encouragement: Encourage students to take responsibility for the care and use of their assigned devices.
Tiered Pricing Reference: For details on the tiered pricing structure, please take a look at the Tiered Obligation Pricing. This document outlines the pricing levels based on the type and extent of damage.
Payment Processing: Tech obligations are treated like any other in-school obligation:
- In-School Payments: Payments may be collected at the school level and forwarded to the Central Office Finance Department for processing. When a payment is received in school, it must be documented, and the in-school tech should be notified to update the system accordingly.
- Online Payments: Parents and students can also make payments conveniently online using MySchoolBucks at CCPS Tech Payments.
Hearing and Vision Screening
Healthy vision and hearing is important for your child’s success in school. State law requires school systems to have students’ hearing and vision screened when they enter the school system. Screenings are scheduled to begin on December 2, 2024. Students who should not be included in the screenings include: Those whose parents/guardians object in writing to the screenings on the grounds that it conflicts with the tenets and practice of a recognized church or religious denomination of which they are a member; Those with known hearing loss, including but not limited to, students with cochlear implants or hearing aids; and Those who present evidence of testing within the last year.
If your child falls into any of these categories or if you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse at 410-479-3612 or via email at hoffman.cynthia@ccpsstaff.org.
