Points from the Principal
As January comes to a close, this is a great time to reflect on the progress students have made and look ahead to the rest of the school year. With the second trimester in full swing, students have the opportunity to build on their successes and refine their goals. Winter weather can bring additional challenges, so it’s important for students to stay focused, maintain healthy habits, and come prepared for the colder months.
From the Desk of Mrs. Wiley
2025-26 Scheduling:
All 9th-11th grade students scheduled this week. Students picked classes and alternates as they looked toward next school year. Please play an active role in the scheduling process with your child. It is important to have conversations about their future academic and professional goals. Some 10th grade students visited the Saginaw Career Complex this week to see if this is a fit.
If you have questions, please reach out to Mrs. Luplow or myself, we are happy to help.
Mrs. Wiley
Words from a Cop
PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!
I’m getting multiple complaints of people speeding through the parking lot during dismissal times. Speeding through a parking lot could result in a careless driving citation. You are putting others at risk of getting hit, or causing an accident.
Hold yourself accountable, or someone else will. Be patient and use common sense.
YOU ARE IN A SCHOOL PARKING LOT! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Stay safe, stay vigilant

Audio/Video Broadcasting PBS Field Trip
The Audio/Video Broadcasting Students went to PBS on Thursday, January 23rd. The students really enjoyed learning how a video studio operates. There were over 13 positions to run the studio. Our PBS host had all our Swan Valley students take turns at each of the positions: host, guests, director, three floor camera operators, and in the back of the studio there were several audio and video controllers. The students had an opportunity to perform 4 different positions. Then, we had a tour of the PBS Radio Station 90.1. They saw the first video camera in 1964 that was used at the PBS Station. It is 100 times the size of the camera we currently use. What a learning experience for them.

Notes from the Nurse.....
Already this season, we are seeing an increase in pneumonia cases.
Pneumonia is a respiratory infection in which the air sacs in the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid or pus, making it difficult and painful to breathe. It can be caused by a bacteria, virus, or fungus. Pneumonia is often the consequence of a COVID or influenza infection. It is spread through respiratory droplets in the air or from touching contaminated services and then touching our faces (nose, mouth, eyes), similar to the way other respiratory infections are spread. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, headaches, body aches and weakness. However, instead of feeling better within a few days, symptoms worsen and may include chest pain, shortness of breath, a rapid heart rate, shaking/chills and/or a blueish tint to the lips and nailbeds. Pneumonia can be diagnosed per chest xray, sputum sample or blood cultures. Treatment includes antibiotics (for pneumonia caused by bacteria), bronchodilators (to help ease breathing), fluids and LOTS OF REST!! A person with pneumonia may remain contagious for up to 48 hours after starting an antibiotic and fever has stopped, and it may take from one week to one month before full recovery. Untreated pneumonia can lead to a lung abscess, sepsis and ultimately respiratory failure. Some of the infections that can lead to pneumonia can be prevented with vaccines. These include the flu vaccine, the pneumococcal vaccines, and the COVID vaccine. Meticulous hand washing, cough etiquette and immunizations are the best public health measures we can take to keep ourselves and those around us healthy this season!

READ Association Volunteers
The READ Association of Saginaw County is currently working on plans for a Summer Mentor Program. Our regular Mentor Program takes place during the school year, mostly during the school day. Trained volunteers meet with elementary students in need of extra reading practice. In order to reach more students, the READ Association would like to continue this during the summer and the Thomas Township Library has agreed to be a host. This program would be a good match for Swan Valley students. The meetings would be one hour per week.
