(NEW!) Saline's Learner Profile:
Over the last few months, Saline Area Schools has engaged in strategic planning to update Saline's Learner Profile (known as the “SAS Compass”) which was established in 2016. The Compass serves as the cornerstone for the SAS District Strategic Framework, reflecting important skills and competencies that are critical to post-graduation success and future employment.
After multiple focus groups and planning sessions, we are ready to share a draft update with the community to gather broader input that will help guide the final design. Your feedback will help shape the future of Saline Area Schools, ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of our students, families, staff, community, AND local businesses.
You are invited to share your thoughts on the draft updated version of Saline's Learner Profile/SAS Compass by completing this quick questionnaire.
This Month's Social-Emotional Learning Focus:
Dear Families,
As we reflect on the past few months, we are excited to share the progress our 4th and 5th graders have made in building strong classroom connections through our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program. Over the next few weeks, we will focus on celebrating how much our students have grown as a class, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
Focus Areas:
1. Reflecting on Growth:
- Students will take time to reflect on how their class has grown since the beginning of the school year. They will think about the friendships they have formed, the challenges they have overcome together, and the skills they have developed as a group.
2. Strengthening Classroom Connections:
- We will focus on activities that reinforce the bonds between classmates. Through group discussions, team-building exercises, and collaborative projects, students will continue to learn the importance of cooperation, respect, and empathy in their daily interactions.
3. Celebrating Achievements:
- Students will have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of their peers and the class as a whole. We will highlight individual and group successes, reinforcing a positive and supportive classroom environment.
4. Looking Ahead:
- As part of our reflection, students will set goals for how they want to continue growing as a class. This will include identifying ways to support one another, improving communication, and fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
How You Can Support at Home:
Discuss Your Child’s Experiences: Ask your child about their classroom experiences this year. Encourage them to share stories about new friendships, challenges they have overcome, and ways they feel their class has grown.
Celebrate Growth: Acknowledge and celebrate the progress your child has made in building connections with their peers. Highlight how these relationships have enriched their school experience and contributed to a positive classroom community.
Encourage Teamwork: Reinforce the importance of teamwork and collaboration at home. Engage your child in family activities that require working together, such as cooking a meal, playing a game, or completing a project.
Model Positive Relationships: Show your child how to build and maintain positive relationships by demonstrating respect, active listening, and empathy in your own interactions. This helps them see the value of these skills in all areas of life.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students grow both socially and emotionally. We are proud of the progress our 4th and 5th graders have made and look forward to seeing how they will continue to strengthen their classroom connections.

Hornets Helping Hornets
Every once in a while, a Saline Area Schools family needs just a little bit of extra help. When that happens, we want to make it easy for other families to fulfill that need without knowing who the need is for. These needs will include such things as coats, boots, snacks, gas cards, lunch money, etc...
To learn more and view the needs, simply sign up to be on the weekly email distribution list here. This is a very easy way to help out fellow SAS community members!
Thank you for caring about our Saline Area Schools families! Questions? You can reach us at salinehornetshelpinghornets@gmail.com.
