Happy New Year y'all! It was so good to see your children this week. We have missed them! Even though we did not have as much school as we expected this week, we jumped right in! Everyone worked hard on their iReady assessments. Additionally fifth grade worked on multiplying fractions and second grade started working with coins. We talked about wants and needs in kindergarten and third grade worked to identify the root word as well as the prefixes and suffixes. The school year is halfway over, and we are not wasting time!
I want to give a special hoot out to all of our student, staff, and families who demonstrated the global competency of flexibility as we adapted to schedule changes around the weather. Packets of work went home in case we are unable to be in school Monday, but that decision has not yet been made. Those packets are available in google classroom (3-5) and class dojo (K-2). If we have a remote day, completion of the packets will result in your student being marked present. If we're here, please bring the packet back and we'll do them in class! Keep an eye on the news and Class dojo for any schedule changes this season and stay safe out there!
In order to earn free pizza, kindergarten through third grade students need to be reading twenty minutes, four days a week. For fourth and fifth graders, they need to read two novels a month. We want to see 100 students get free pizza in January! I plan to get lots of reading done this weekend as the wintery weather rolls through this weekend.
We're so excited that the drum line is returning to West Oxford! If your 3rd-5th grade student is interested, come out to the informational session for parents Tuesday evening at 5:30!

- Family bingo tonight has been postponed due to weather. We will let you know when we reschedule.
- Our PTO will meet on January 14th in the media center at 6:00. All parents are welcome!
- We will have no school on January 20th.
- Class picture day is January 21st.
- All Pro Dad's breakfast for 3rd-5th grade is On January 21st at 8:00.
- January 30th and 31st will be parent conference days, and there is no school on January 31st for students.
Open enrollment started Tuesday and runs through February 4th. If know anyone who is interested in becoming a WOX owl, we have school tours on January 13th at 1:00 or 4:00 and January 17th at 1:00. If those times don't work for you, they can call the school and request that we schedule a tour. If you are here as part of the choice program or live out of district, please make sure you enroll your student for next year. The form is here in English and here in Spanish.
Please make sure that you are reading with your child for 20 minutes each night, and tracking it on their reading log so they can earn their pizzas. Happy reading!
