Chatfield Cheetahs
January Update
Welcome Back Chatfield Cheetahs!
We are looking forward to a wonderful second semester with all of our students and families. We hope you had time to laugh, play, and relax with your family during the winter break.
Teachers returned to work two days prior to students returning. During this time teachers were diligently planning for conferences and preparing weekly lessons and small groups in preparation for students arrival. During the In-Service Tuesday, teachers spent the majority of the day analyzing all of their students math and literacy assessments and identified key areas to target. Taking this time ensures that all students are recieving instruction that meets their individual needs.
As an administrator, this is something I wish all families could observe. To see teachers intentionally pouring over data of individual students in order to come up instructional next steps is an incredible process to observe.
As we begin the new semester, this is a great time for you to be discussing with your child what their independent goals are for their learning. Students might set goals for increasing their engagement, learning math facts or sight words, tackling a subject that is more challenging for them with a growth mindset, or showing respect to others. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Thank you for supporting your student and participating in their education.
Every Student Counts. Every Moment Matters.

🏆 Attendance Campaign🏆
As the second semester begins, Chatfield Elementary will be kicking off an Attendance Awareness Campaign. We know that attendance matters and so does everyone in our community. Attendance not only impacts learning, but also impacts relationships. We value our community and would like to see everyone, every day!
- To increase attendance, each month individual grade levels will compete with one another to see which class can achieve the highest attendance percentage out of that grade level.
- Classrooms will qualify for the competition if their attendance percentages are 93% or above.
- At the end of the month, a class from each grade level with the highest attendance percentage will win a prize for that month.
- In addition, the classroom with the highest attendance improvement overall for the month will receive a prize as well.
We know however that it is not always possible, or the best choice to be at school every day! Life happens; we get sick, unexpected life events pop up; we understand. When students are really sick, we want them to stay home so they can heal faster!
Social Emotional Learning
During the months of January and February we will be learning about respect. In January, our specific targets will be showing repsect to your community and yourself.
Possible Talking Points:
- Who did you show respect to today?
- How did you show respect today
- Who showed you respect today?
- When is the hardest for you to show respect?

Happy New Year Chatfield Families!
As a school, we finished off the 2023 year focusing on empathy and kindness. Did you know that every student at Chatfield celebrated World Kindness Day by creating one super long kindness chain?! (The chain is on display in the cafeteria.)
During counselor lessons, students have been exploring the topic of emotion management. In January, we will continue learning about how the human brain processes strong emotions and identify helpful ways to regulate those big feelings. Be sure to ask your child about self-calming strategies at home! Here are a few ideas:
Deep breathing
Stretching
Counting
Talking to a trusted adult or friend
Drawing/Coloring
Doing something physical, like playing a sport or riding a bike
Using positive self-talk, like “I’m okay. I can figure this out.”
Listening to music
Journaling
Practicing gratitude
Drinking water/eating a healthy snack
Kindly,

Lunch with Learners
If you would like to have lunch with your child, you may sign up IN ADVANCE at the office. We are creating space for two families to join their learner during their designated lunch time on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
If your child is in kindergarten, 2nd, or 4th grade, then you may sign up to eat in the cafeteria with them on a TUESDAY.
If your child is in 1st, 3rd or 5th grade, then you may sign up to eat in the cafeteria with them on a WEDNESDAY.
Families may spend time with their child during the designated cafeteria time. Students will then be dismissed for recess, and we kindly ask that families leave at this time, so that we can clean the table for the next grade levels' families.
