Happy New Year! 2020
Dear Parents,
We are excited to begin 2020 here at CPE. There is a lot to do and it is important to take on the challenges of the upcoming months with tenacity. This is the “meat and potatoes” time of year when we really focus on improving academic skills, knowledge and development of our core values. Our students will be working hard on improving their performance in math, reading & science. We are also preparing for Student Exhibition Night in April. This will be our 4th Exhibition and we hope students and families will get a lot out of it.
As parents, your help in getting students to school on time, visiting with them about their day, and communicating with their teacher(s) is vital. Working together during this time of year will result in substantial academic gains. Thank you for all that you do.
With that said, let me say how proud I am of our students and staff. It is a pleasure to serve all of you each day.
With sincerity,
Walt Davenport

CPE in the News......
This is a nice synopsis of the goals and rationale behind some of our goals at CPE and in School District 6. In these rapidly changing times, it is important to respond to the demands that will be placed on our future generations. Our children's education is paramount in helping them gain the necessary skills they will need in their adult lives.
Reminder... Bush Street drop off in the morning!
Remember that if you have students in grades 1-5, you can drop your students off for school on Bush Street between 7:35 and 7:55 a.m. We continue to struggle with traffic congestion in the round-a-bout in the morning. If you are a parent that drives your student to school, please consider using the Bush Street drop off. There is a staff member present at the drop off gate to help ensure student safety. Only students are permitted to enter through the Bush Street entrance. Parents that wish to come into the school must enter through the main entrance at the front of the school.

New Facility Additions to CPE.... Greenhouse, Fencing & Landscaping
The construction continues at the north end of our campus. The landscaping is underway and fencing with gates will soon follow. This may have an impact on some families that drop off and pick up in that area. Please be aware of potential construction issues that impact parking and transit.

Wear Your Helmet!..... A reminder about bike, scooter and skateboard safety.
Parents- We frequently see some of our CPE students riding their bikes, scooters and skateboards without helmets. As a reminder, we hope you will reinforce the importance of wearing a helmet at all times when riding their bikes etc.
Did you know......
- Bike helmets reduce head injuries by 85 percent, brain injury by 88 percent.
- In 2010, approximately 81,101 nonfatal injuries among child cyclists were traffic-related.
- Each year, skateboarding injuries cause about 50,000 visits to emergency rooms; 1,500 children and adolescents are hospitalized.
- More children ages 5 to 14 are seen in ERs for injuries related to biking than any other sport.
- A 25 percent reduction in childhood bike injuries and deaths could lead to savings of over $500 million in societal costs (health care and productivity losses.)
Remember.....
Wear a bike helmet every time you ride, even if you're going for a short ride. And follow these rules:
- Make sure your bike helmet fits you well.
- Always wear your helmet the right way so it will protect you: Make sure it covers your forehead and don't let it tip back. Always fasten the straps.
- Don't wear a hat under your helmet.
- Take care of your helmet and don't throw it around. If it's damaged, it won't protect you as well when you need it.
- Get a new helmet if you fall while you're on your bike and hit your head.
- Put reflective stickers on your helmet so drivers can see you better.
Cold and Flu Season is Here!
A friendly reminder: The most important way to prevent the spread of colds and flu is practicing good hand and cough hygiene. Model and teach your children how to wash hands frequently and thoroughly, throughout the day; before /after meals, after coughing or touching their faces, after toileting. Demonstrate how to “cough in your sleeve” rather than covering a cough with a hand to help limit hand-to-surface-to-hand spread of illnesses.
If your child has a temperature over 100.5 degrees, is vomiting, or is not feeling well enough to participate in school, please keep them home. The recommendation is fever below 100.5 (without fever reducing medication) and no vomiting for about 24 hours before returning to school. Your child’s behavior is also important to consider-do they feel well enough to be at school, or feel “too” well to be at home?
Regular school attendance is very important for all of our children. Let’s work together to keep our school healthy.
Vaccine Exclusion Day is Feb 19th
Get your child immunized now so they don't miss school!
La Clinica in Central Point (beside the water park) can assist you in getting your child to get caught up on their required immunizations before the exclusion day.
Contact the La Clinica to make an appointment (541-535-6239). They are able to see patients until 6:00 p.m. Your student does not have to be a patient of La Clinica to get vaccinations.
OR.....you can come to CPE on January 30th and have your child vaccinated. To participate in this vaccination day, you must have your paperwork completed by Friday, January 24th. Please contact our school nurse (Angela Parker) at 541-494-6512 for more details about this opportunity.
PTO Meetings at C.P.E.
PTO at CPE...Welcome or welcome back from your CPE PTO! We have a great group of parents returning that truly love getting together to help organize and facilitate the many wonderful and worthwhile events throughout the year. What we are really excited about is the chance to get to know you, the person who has wanted to get involved, but just hasn’t had the time or ability. Make this the year you take a chance and get involved, you’ll love it!! We meet on the first Thursday of every Month (except Sept) in the School Library from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Our upcoming meetings are set for January 9th and February 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the school library. We look forward to seeing you there.

Medicine at School
It is important to communicate with the front office staff in the event your student needs to take medication during the school day. Students must not have medication in their possession. We have a secure area for student medications and procedures in place to ensure the highest safety levels. Medications must remain in the prescribed container. Call Elaine Cook for additional information .
