April Positive Office Referrals
Cuyahoga Falls City Schools utilizes PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) as a way to focus on the positive behaviors and how to change behaviors by using positive reinforcement. This goes hand-in-hand with our code of conduct that provides discipline procedures for negative behaviors. In wanting to help reinforce the positive behaviors students exhibit, Silver Lake Elementary is using a Positive Student Referral System where staff members can refer a student to the principal but for positive reasons.
Congratulations to the Silver Lakers on their Positive Referral to my office!

Traffic Reminders
If you are dropping of your students and stop in front of a fire hydrant, please be sure to not leave your vehicle. If you want to leave your vehicle, remember to think about safety and not block a hydrant.
Also when dropping of your students, please only let them out of the vehicle when you are on the curb side. It is not safe to do so on the left side and it is not courteous to your fellow parents and other cars trying to use the road.
Kdg parents dropping off and picking up their students. Avoid the bus area in the back. The bushes to the fence is the area we need to keep clear. The area in front of the field and after the fence is where we ask parents to park.
Six District Compact "Entrepre-New" visit
We had visitors from the Six District Compact Entrepre-New course come and talk to Silver Lake students about business and their fun event they had planned: The Duck Race.
Playground Use Outside of School Hours
After school, once students have joined their parents/guardians and are in their care and under their supervision, students may be on the playground sets. Again, this is an issue with supervision and we do not want anything to happen to our little Black Tigers.
Parents with students picking up younger siblings (HS or MS students): please have conversations regarding how they should not be playing on the equipment when our day is still in session. I understand that older students get out earlier but that becomes a disruption to the end of the day here. I appreciate all of your help with this matter.
CFCSD All-City Art Walk
On April 25, the district took over Front Street and posted works of art from students at all levels of school. It was a fun event, and we had amazing weather to help bring in families and community members. The Elementary Honors Choir (made up of 4th and 5th graders) also had two performances along the riverfront.
3rd grade Celebrates Arbor Day
Every spring, members of the 3rd grade staff at SLE and the Silver Lake Park Board get together to celebrate Arbor Day and to recognize a member of the community with the planting of a tree in their honor. This year, on May 3, students learned about the history of Arbor Day, learned about the importance of trees and careers that they could do with trees in their future and even heard a proclamation from the one and only Mayor Dunphy! Then everyone went outside to the new tree to help lay some mulch around the base of the tree.

From the Clinic
Medications
*Any parents wishing to have their student take medicine at school need to bring the medications to the clinic. Medications (prescription or over-the-counter) need to be in an unopened box as well as not be expired. Our School Medical Assistant will have a form to fill out.Cough Drops
It has been brought to my attention that student's are coming to school with cough drops. Unfortunately, student's are not allowed to have cough drops in school due to them being a choking hazard.
Changes of Clothes
There has been an increase in numbers for students needing a change of clothes at school whether it be spilled drinks, accidents or mud outside. Please keep a spare change of clothes in your students' bookbag. I do have clothes that have been donated however once they are given out, I rarely receive them back.
Please, if your child comes home in clothes they did not come to school with on their body, please return them washed to the clinic.
If you have any questions, please contact the clinic Monday thru Friday 8:30am-3:30pm at 330-926-3811 ext.502876.
Thank you,
M.Reinesto, CCMA
Reminder
*Please keep your student home if they have a fever or are vomiting.
*To return to school, your child must be 24 hours fever free without medication and 24 hours vomit free.
SLE Yearbook
While the ordering window has closed, I wanted to ensure families knew that they would be delivered to the building for a Fall '24 pass out. For our students who have moved to Middle School, we will send them to the proper middle school, or will find an address to send them if students have moved.
Thank you!
