The PowerUp! Renewable Energy scholarship
SOLV Energy is a solar contractor and services provider for the utility sector. We build large-scale solar facilities, like the Stillhouse Solar Farm in Bell County, that generate enough energy to power upward of 20,000 homes per year with clean electricity.
At SOLV Energy our mission is to make a positive difference in the communities we work and live in through projects that generate good energy for people and the planet. Beyond the projects we build, we often partner with schools and organizations near our jobsites to invest in STEAM education.
I wanted to pass along a scholarship opportunity to share with Shoemaker High School seniors. SOLV Energy is proud to announce the third annual launch of The PowerUp! Renewable Energy scholarship, awarding six students in the U.S. $1,500 each who demonstrate how they will use their future education to pursue a career related to clean energy.
More information, instructions and eligibility details are available at https://www.solvenergy.com/power-up-scholarship.

Important Reminders:
Tardy Policy:
Please encourage your student to arrive on time to their classes to avoid any disruptions. We’ve implemented a 30-second reminder before the tardy bell to help students get to class on time.Student IDs:
All students must have their ID visible at all times—worn around the neck, not on backpacks or around the waist. This is crucial for maintaining campus security.Early Release Students & Missed Bus to KCC/CTC:
Students with early release who choose to stay on campus must sign in and remain in the library. If your student misses the bus, they should notify the front office, and we will assist in resolving the situation. However, if the situation cannot be resolved, students must stay in the library until their next class on campus begins. Roaming the hallways is not permitted for safety reasons.Cell Phone and Electronic Devices Policy: Our new cell phone policy is now in effect. We're continuing with reminders on Tuesday and Wednesday, and starting Thursday, September 5th, we'll begin enforcing consequences for having electronic devices like cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and headphones out during the school day from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM.
- Important Information for Parents: Each secondary student will be assigned a personal, secure pouch for their cell phone at the start of the school year. Students are expected to bring this pouch to school daily and return it in good condition at the end of the year.
- We understand that some parents may choose not to provide their students with cell phones or may prefer that their students not bring electronic devices to school. If your student does bring a device, they must either surrender it to the appropriate assistant principal or request a secure pouch in line with Administrative Procedure VI-EE.

CKH Focus of the Month is on Kindness
This Month’s Focus: Kindness
What is Kindness?
Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.
Why focus on Kindness?
- Kindness boosts positive emotions. Acts of kindness create neural pathways that enhance feelings of well-being and the natural flow of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters.
- Kindness is self-replicating. When we perform an act of kindness, it is likely to encourage others to act in a similar way.
- Kindness reduces stress and anxiety. Kindness promotes positive relationships with other people. Anything that helps you to build bonds with other people helps decrease anxiety.
Kindness in Action:
- Celebrate small things. Start each day with Good Things as a class. Publicly and privately affirm kind and thoughtful actions and attitudes.
- Create opportunities for students to affirm each other regularly. Once a week, dedicate time for students to write notes of affirmation to classmates and school staff members.
- Model Kindness. Be mindful of body language, tone, and mindset. Kindness is learned by example!
Please read more about KISD's Cell Phone Free schools below
As we start this exciting school year, I want to remind you that Shoemaker High School is a cell phone-free campus from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. This includes smartwatches and earbuds, which must be put away during these hours.
Our goal is to minimize distractions and keep students focused on learning and engagement. Phones are available throughout the campus if students need to contact you, and in case of an emergency, we will notify families promptly.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing this policy at home. For questions or concerns, please reach out to the district at phonefreeschools@killeenisd.org.
Thank you for your partnership, and let's make this year the best one yet!
For Students with ID Cards and Cell Phone Pouches:
- Enter through Door #2.
- Open your pouch before entering.
- Power off your phone and place it inside the pouch.
- After passing through the Evolve system (metal detector), an AP or staff member will lock your pouch and return it to you.
- Proceed to the designated area (café or 1100 hallway) until the bell rings.
For Students without ID Cards or Pouches:
- Enter through Door #40.
- Walk through the Evolve system and log any ID or pouch violations at a computer.
- You will have one last chance to secure your phone in a pouch or turn it in before entering the hallways.
- If your phone is confiscated during the day, you will automatically move to Step 2 of the district's cell phone consequence policy.
- You will then be directed to your designated area (café or 1100 hallway).
Important Reminder: Treat Yondr pouches like ID cards. Students must bring them to school every day, even if they do not have a phone.
