Inclement weather make-up dates
The original last day of school for students in 2023-24 was Wednesday, June 5. But FCPS closed schools for two days this year due to inclement weather:
- Friday, January 19
- Tuesday, February 13
Those closure dates make Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7 inclement weather make-up days to ensure FCPS completes 180 days of instruction as mandated by the Maryland State Department of Education.
Save the Date- Fifth Grade Celebration Wednesday, June 5 9:30-10:30 am.

Congratulations to the MYES Maryland Math League Team. The Myersville team placed third out of seven teams and was the top FCPS team. We'd also like to recognize the following students: Eli B placed second overall. Harrison E, Claudia F, and Jack M placed in the top 25. We are very proud of our Math Leaguers. They will be getting recognized at our end of year spirit rally.
Grades 3-5 MCAP Testing Tips: Math April 29-May 3
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) will build a pathway to college and career readiness, mark students’ progress toward this goal from grade 3 through high school, and provide teachers with timely information to inform instruction and provide student support.
Please make every effort to schedule appointments and/or trips on days that your child is not testing. Any day that a student misses an exam, we will work with them to schedule a make-up exam during the make- up days.
- Ensure your child eats a good breakfast – Studies show that children perform better at school when they aren’t hungry. It’s important to give your child a good breakfast at home or ask your child’s school about options for breakfast. As long as your child arrives before the bell, most schools offer breakfast and some schools offer breakfast in the classroom.
- Help your child get enough sleep – Your child will need to have a good night’s rest to perform well on the test. Children ages 7 to 12 need 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night, while children ages 12 to 18 need 8 to 9 hours. Make sure bedtime the night before the test is early enough to provide enough sleep.
- Prepare the night before – Lay out clothes and school supplies the night before the test to create a smooth morning routine. It’s important for your child to feel calm and organized as they prepare for a test.
We appreciate your support during these important assessments.
Chorus News
The 3rd grade Colt Chorus will sing two songs at the Town of Myersville time capsule ceremony on Saturday, May 4th at 5:00 p.m. in front of town hall on Main Street.
The 3rd grade Colt Chorus and the 4th and 5th grade Mustang Chorus will present their spring concert--Broadway!--on Monday, May 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the Middletown High auditorium. All are invited to attend.
LOST AND FOUND
Every year the school lost and found contains many personal items of clothing that are never claimed. These items are donated to local charities twice a year. To avoid losing your valuable clothing, parents are asked to clearly label all personal belongings with the child’s name so that lost items may be returned promptly.
If your child is missing a sweater, jacket, etc., please check our “Lost and Found” periodically. Items will be donated to the FCPS Success Program on May 29, 2024.

Share how we can better support your family and child with Special Education services. You can complete the short survey at www.mdparentsurvey.com.
The survey will be available through May 24, 2024.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and ideas! Together, we can continue to improve Special Education Services and Programs in FCPS.
School Attendance for 2023-2024
FCPS attendance policies will be fully implemented and parent notification will be sent for any student who is on track to becoming or is already deemed chronically absent or tardy. Notification will begin at 5 days and when a student accumulates 10 or more absences within the school year. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason- both lawful and unlawful. This amounts to 18 absences total in a single school year.
Maryland Law requires that a written excuse be provided each time that your child is absent. The excuse should include the date of the absence, your child’s first and last name, and the reason for the absence. Please either send in a handwritten note or you can email MYES.Attendance@fcps.org.
