Round Hill Elementary Teacher Earns SHINE Award
Congrats to Kathryn Schroeck, a 4th-grade teacher at Round Hill Elementary, for being selected as the February SHINE winner. Ms. Schroeck was nominated by a student who wrote that Ms. Schroeck “brings out the best in each of us…She has given me the tools to be the best I can be!”
SHINE is a joint LCPS and Loudoun Education Foundation initiative to recognize LCPS staff members who go above and beyond in support of LCPS students and the community. Members of the LCPS community – including other staff members, students, parents and community members – are invited to nominate LCPS staff who shine! Students from Farmwell Station Middle Testify to Virginia House of Delegates
A group of 7th-grade students at Farmwell Station Middle School had a real-life lesson in public policy. They testified virtually to the House of Delegates Subcommittee on K-12 Education to change the Code of Virginia to have career and technical education clubs at middle and high schools, regardless of whether the schools offer career and technical education courses. Read more about the student's testimony.
Input Requested Regarding Calendar Change
Earlier this week, LCPS parents/guardians and staff received an email from Lisa Boland, chief human resources officer, requesting input on a calendar change. In 2023, the Loudoun County School Board, with guidance from LCPS, approved student calendars for the next two school years (2024/25 and 2025/26). However, the Commonwealth of Virginia recently passed legislation changing the Virginia June primary election date from the second Tuesday in June to the third Tuesday in June. For both 2025 and 2026, this election day falls on the last day of school. LCPS parents/guardians and staff are being asked for their input on how to adjust the calendar to accommodate this election day. As many LCPS schools are used as polling places, schools will be closed on this day. Please provide your input by Wednesday, April 3, when the survey closes.
Special Permission Application Period for LCPS Families Opens April 1
Starting Monday, April 1, at 10 a.m., LCPS parents/guardians may request special permission for their student to attend a school outside their attendance zone. The special permission application period closes on June 30 at 11:59 p.m. Special permission may be approved if there is capacity at the requested school. Please visit the LCPS Special Permission website for more information.
