Eagle Update
Archer Glen Elementary | August 19, 2024
Welcome Back!
Welcome to the start of a new school year, Archer Glen Eagles!
We are so excited to see the return of familiar faces and welcome our new Eagles next week! We have been working hard to get the building and materials ready for a fantastic school year, and we wanted to send a few reminders as families begin to prepare for the students' return next week.
Be sure to check your email Friday afternoon around 3:15 pm! Teachers will be sending out an email to greet students and provide information about their class this year.
On Tuesday, August 27, we encourage all 1st through 5th grade families to join us for the Meet and Greet from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Information is shared below and we hope that you will be able to attend.
We have included upcoming important dates within this update so you can get them on your calendar. Please note that our early release Wednesdays do not start until September 4th.
This is going to be a wonderful school year! I could not be more excited to meet each of our students and families, working together so that each child continues to grow and thrive.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next week,
Sarah

Meet and Greet Night
All 1st through 5th Grade students are invited to join our Meet and Greet Night, on Tuesday, August 27th. This will be an open house event from 4-6 pm and your family can attend any time during that two hour block. Your families will have time to see your child's classroom, meet their teachers, and drop off supplies.
If you ordered a supply kit in the spring they will be waiting for you here at school that night. If you are purchasing your own supplies, a list of supplies for grades K-5 can be found linked here. Please note kindergarten students will bring their supplies with them to their orientation day (information for the kinder orientation day is shared below).
If your family needs help with supplies, please see the section below from the SHARE center and they would be more than happy to help!
Kindergarten Information
In order to ensure that our kindergarten students and families have the best start to the year possible, we have a slightly different schedule for kindergarten the first few days of school. This schedule allows parents to get a more detailed welcome to Archer Glen and helps us establish kindergarten class lists that take into account the needs and strengths of each student. This year we will also provide time for all families to meet with their assigned kindergarten teacher prior to the start of the school year. We realize that this schedule can be a bit confusing at first, but we've truly seen the benefits of using the "Ramp Up" model for the last 10+ years, and we hope your family will as well!
Linked here is a special edition kindergarten newsletter that has detailed information about each day of the Ramp Up, as well as special no-school days for kindergarten. If you have any questions after looking it over, please feel free to reach out to our main office (contact information at the bottom of this newsletter).
First Day of School
Our first day of school for grades 1-5 will be Wednesday, August 28th! Kindergarten will also attend a full day.
School begins at 7:55 am and information about drop off and pick up can be found below. Our school day ends at 2:15 pm, with the exception of early release Wednesdays (starting on September 4th) when school is dismissed at 1:15 pm. Please note, that the first day of school will not be an early release.
Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival - Students should arrive at school between 7:45 and 7:55 a.m. Classes begin at 7:55 a.m. Students can use either the Main Entrance or the Activities Entrance to enter the building starting at 7:45 a.m. Students arriving after 7:55 a.m. (tardy) should use the Main Entrance.
Vehicle Drop Off is along the main parking lot sidewalk. Students should exit vehicles from the passenger side. If students need additional assistance exiting the vehicle, vehicles should park in a parking spot so as to not disrupt the flow of traffic in the drop off lane. When exiting the parking lot, vehicles must turn RIGHT only. This also helps keep traffic flowing. There is no student drop off in the bus lane. The bus lane must remain clear of all arrival traffic.
Dismissal - Students are dismissed at 2:15 p.m. from exterior classroom doors. On early release Wednesdays, students are released at 1:15 p.m. K-1 students who are walking home need to be picked up by a chaperone. Grades 1-5 can be picked up in the car line, but Kindergarten students must be picked up from the exterior classroom door. Kindergarten students will not be released to the car line by themselves.
Elementary School Cell Phone Policy
As we start the school year, we would like to share a quick reminder about our elementary school cell phone expectations which are also outlined in the Parent Handbook Addendum.
Cell phones at the elementary level need to be away "Door to Door." Students with cell phones will need to put them away in their backpack prior to entering the school building, and they will need to remain away in backpacks until students leave the building at the end of the school day.
Smart watches are allowed at school, as long as they are not used as a cellular device. If students are using watches to call or text at school, they will be asked to put their watch in their backpack for the remainder of the day.
If students are not following the cell phone or smartwatch expectations, they will receive a warning and reminder to put them away in their backpack. If future incidents occur, the phone/watches will be collected and stored in the office or with the teacher until the end of the day. Parents may be asked to come pick up watches/phones if there are incidences beyond that point.
As a reminder for all personal devices, the school is not responsible for lost, broken, or stolen devices. If families are concerned about these items, we encourage them to keep personal devices at home.
We appreciate your help in ensuring that our students have a school environment that is free of distractions and supportive of learning!
Early Release Wednesdays
As mentioned above, starting September 4th, each Wednesday will be an early release. All Sherwood schools release one hour early on these days. Early release Wednesdays provide our staff with an important opportunity to collaborate, review student data, and create plans for continued strong instruction throughout the year. We are very grateful for this valuable time, and throughout the year we will be sharing updates of things teachers are working on during their Wednesday collaboration time.

Volunteers
The District will be welcoming volunteers back into our school buildings this year. All volunteers will need to complete and have an approved background check on file prior to volunteering (this must be renewed each school year). The background check process can take 7-10 business days, so please allow sufficient processing time if you are planning to volunteer for a specific event.
HelpCounter Volunteer Information
Our Archer Glen Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is creating an updated email list for school information and other ways to support our school. If you are looking to volunteer at Archer Glen this year, please sign up using the link shared here. If you are new to Archer Glen you will need to create a new login. Past volunteers can use their old sign in. (Please note that this link does not work well on your phone so you will need to use another device).
ALL parents will need to fill out their information again as the system gets updated each fall. The registration will ask some questions about volunteer preferences, please still answer the questions and select all activities you might be interested in learning more about!
You can find out more information about how to sign up for volunteer opportunities at Archer Glen using HelpCounter by visiting Archer Glen PAC's Instagram handle here.
