FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
We've had a successful return from the February Break! It has been a blessing to be together as a school community for various Lenten practices, including our weekly Stations of the Cross on Monday afternoons, as well as confessions for students in grades 2-8 on a rotating weekly basis.
Earlier this week, I heard a wonderful reflection on the feeding of the 5,000. Many are likely familiar with the miracle in which the disciples come to Jesus asking if they can send away a large crowd that has gathered as they have no way to feed them. Rather than sending the crowd away, Jesus asks the disciples to gather what they have and bring it to Him. The disciples manage to gather five loaves and two fish which Jesus then multiplies to feed the crowd.
It is interesting that Jesus could have fed the crowd in any number of ways - after all, he is the Son of God - yet he chooses first to ask the disciples and the crowd to bring to Him what they have, and it is their small offering that He transforms into something both beautiful and plentiful.
What a beautiful way to understand both the current season of Lent as well as the transformative power of Catholic education! During these dark, cold winter months of Lent, intended to be a season of giving, it can often feel like we have nothing or very little left to give. Yet, as the feeding of the 5,000 reminds us, this is exactly what Jesus seeks from us, not to be self-sufficient, but rather to bring to Him what little we have so that he can transform it it to something beautiful, something more than enough.
So too in Catholic education, there is an understanding that we - as both educators and parents - cannot do it alone. Rather, students must be invited to meet Jesus in a way that will transform not just what they have but also who they are into something truly beautiful.
I pray that during these next few weeks of the Lenten season, we may all work to give whatever we have - however small - to God, so that He can transform it into something beautiful.

Annual Lenten Food Drive Continues Through March
The FJVD Annual Lenten Food Drive in support of the Coventry Food Bank continues throughout the month of March. Each week, students are asked to bring in a particular food item that is particularly in need at our local food bank. This week (March 4th - March 8th) students are asked to bring in tuna and canned meet. So the flyer (at right) for a full breakdown of food items by week. Thank you for your generosity and support!
Tell Us Something Good!
We are starting the fourth unit of our Friendzy program, with the catchphrase "Teamwork Makes the Dream Work." While students will be receiving instruction on the unit's themes, goals, and Biblical touch points, we also encourage you to follow up with these concepts at home! You can learn more about Unit IV, including topics and questions to discuss at home, by reading the Parent Letter here. As part of this unit, we're celebrating our students as a class. To help us do this, we're asking parents to share something AWESOME about their student! Have something to share? Complete the Google Form here!
As always, be assured of my prayers for you and your families.
God bless and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin
