MEMS Principal's Update
Spring 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians
As we approach the end of the school year, it's hard to believe how quickly time has flown by. Reflecting on the past months, we are proud of the many accomplishments we have achieved together. From academic milestones to extracurricular triumphs, our students have shown remarkable growth and resilience. Your support and involvement have been instrumental in these successes, and we are grateful for our supportive community. As we head into the final stretch, let's celebrate our achievements and finish the year strong!
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Fiorillo

8th Grade Dance
We are all very excited and eager for this year's 8th Grade Dance. Our eighth grade dance will take place on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the MEMS gymnasium and student dining room. As in the past, the MEMS Booster Organization will host the dance and will supply refreshments and entertainment. Please remember that your child MUST attend school on the day of the dance. Students who leave school prior to 11:30 a.m. will not be counted as present for the day and will forfeit the opportunity to attend the dance. On the evening of the dance, students must be picked up promptly at 9:00 p.m.
As a reminder, the following rules are in effect to create a safe and organized event:
Students will be let into the dance starting at 6:45pm. No students will be allowed into the dance after 7:30pm.
We ask that all students adhere to the dress code policy on the night of the dance.
All students will have to sign in to the dance upon arrival.
If a student is leaving the dance with someone other than a parent, the parent needs to complete the google form below and submit it by end of day on June 1st.
Traffic in and out of the dance is expected to be heavy. For this reason, we cannot allow students to arrive in limousines. Additionally, we cannot allow pictures at drop off.
Students are not allowed to bring any guests who are not MEMS students.
No outside food or drink is allowed in the dance.
No backpacks or large purses are allowed in the dance.
All students must be picked up by 9:00pm.
As you can imagine, with a class of nearly 600, traffic will be heavy at pick-up. In order to create a safe and orderly dismissal please follow the following guidelines:
All parents/ guardians will enter MEMS through the parking lot entrance.
Students whose last names begin with A-K will be picked up at the front of MEMS (main entrance). Parents/ guardians will turn left and line up on the school side of the driveway to meet their child/ children. No cars will be allowed to park on the Memorial/ road side of the driveway. All cars exiting the driveway will make a right turn onto Millhurst Road.
All other students (L-Z) will be picked up at the gym. Parents/ guardians will pull up to the 7th grade parent pick-up area to pick up their child/children.
If you are picking up a child who is not your own they should wait with your child in your child’s designated area.
Manalapan Police will be directing traffic the night of the event. Please follow their direction and established traffic patterns.
Yearbooks
Purchasing yearbooks in June is on a first come, first serve basis, with 8th graders being offered the ability to purchase first. The date to purchase in school will be June 18th for $55 cash. Please contact Ms. Romano for more information.

Dress Code Reminder
As the weather gets warmer it is important to remember that there is a school dress code. This is particularly important for gym and science classes, where safety is an issue. The following attire is prohibited:
- Short shorts/skirts which reveal the upper thigh and/or undergarments.
- Shorts and skirts must be of “fingertip” length
- Sheer layers, tank tops, midriff, halter, and other tops with spaghetti straps which reveal the abdomen, chest or undergarments
- Shirts and shorts/skirts – must overlap (no skin should be exposed)
- Flip flops, slipper-type shoes, or other unsafe footwear
- Spiked or studded jewelry, oversized or multi-finger rings, chains, or any other attire with spikes or studs attached
- Attire which may be dangerous in particular school settings, i.e., sandals in a science lab or technology room
- Clothing that may have offensive or inappropriate writing/pictures on it
- Head coverings of any kind with the exception of those garments worn for religious reasons
- Coats, jackets, or other attire normally worn as outerwear.
Thank you for your help with this important issue.
