Junior Achievement BizTown Mobile
JA BizTown Mobile will be taking place for 6th grade students from Longfellow Elementary on March 25th, 2024 at the Iowa City Community Schools Center for Innovation. JA BizTown is a one-day simulation following teacher-led classroom curriculum where students will take on a job role within 'BizTown' in one of 20 storefronts. They are responsible for running their businesses and the town for the day, voting, ordering stock, selling goods and services, shopping, and so on. The simulation is essentially a "crash course in adulting"!
Volunteers are needed for the day of the simulation. Volunteers will be assigned to a storefront (e.g. Utilities, City Hall, Financial Institution) to help oversee students operating that storefront throughout the day. Volunteers will ask questions, help students complete job tasks, and encourage them to think of ways to boost sales, pay bills, and engage with the 'BizTown Community'. JA will provide a 30–45-minute orientation prior to student arrival for you to get familiar with your storefront and role for the day, and then you will oversee the group of students assigned to that storefront for the day. This is a great opportunity to interact with students as they get hands-on experience with financial literacy and work and career readiness skills.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Katie Langrehr, Experiential Learning Director, at klangrehr@jaeasterniowa.org to register.
