Communication
The first point of contact for students and families should be the classroom teacher. We encourage you to keep an open communication with your child’s teachers throughout the school year. This can be done via google classroom, telephone, email, their website, monthly class memos, Twitter, etc. Developing and maintaining that positive school/family relationship is essential.
Attendance Matters
As we begin 2025, it is important to remember that attendance is directly tied to student achievement and we want to ensure that each and every student at Roncalli performs to their maximum potential or beyond. It is important that students are on time for classes each and every day. Consistent attendance is crucial for academic and social success, as it ensures that students are actively engaged and able to fully benefit from the educational opportunities we provide. When students attend school consistently, they not only keep up with their lessons and assignments, but they also develop important life skills such as responsibility, time management, and perseverance. Being present and engaged in the classroom and school allows students to participate in discussions, collaborate with peers, and build strong relationships.
In the morning, classes start promptly at 8:40 am and at 12:45 pm in the afternoon for all students. Attendance matters! Students who miss time in school, even for legitimate reasons,
may experience gaps in their learning
may have increased anxiety levels regarding school
may be less confident to participate in class
may struggle to complete assigned work
may not be well connected to a peer group
may not develop important skills necessary for later in life
Cell Phones
As a school we request that students leave cell phones at home. IF it is deemed necessary by the parents/guardians to have it in school, it has to be stored in a student’s locker until the end of the day and turned off. The cell phone CANNOT be used while the student is in school and CANNOT be on their person. Phones are available in the office to contact family. The decision to bring a cell phone to school is a personal one and the school accepts no liability for any damages or lost/stolen devices. Note that cell phones are not permitted to be used on the school bus either. The usage of cell phones will be strictly enforced. We ask for your cooperation and support with this.
School Safety - Visiting the School
Please note that ALL visitors (parents, guardians, community members etc) must come into the main office to check in when you are buzzed in at the front door. For the safety of our students, visitors are NOT permitted to go to classrooms, roam hallways etc. Someone on staff will bring you to the place in the school where you need to be or bring your child to you.
School Hours - Supervision
Just a reminder that our school doors do not open for students until 8:25 AM each morning. We strongly encourage you, for safety reasons, not to drop your child off before this time, as they cannot access the building and there is no supervision outside for students. Our staff do not start supervision until 8:25 AM. As well, our dismissal time for all students is at 2:45 PM, it is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that their child is picked up on time, at 2:45 PM.
