Tate TAP TELEGRAM February 2025
February 6th, 2025
Email announcement from Ryan Turner of open Road Driving
Dear ICCSD staff,
We are pleased to inform you that we have a new partnership with the ICCSD! Our comprehensive and modern online program is now available for all of your students. Our staff is ready to welcome your students for Driver Education. Our sign up process is simple and easy and your students can pick a class time or location that is most convenient for them.
Students that receive free lunch can take Drivers Ed for free through our program. Students that receive reduced lunch can take Drivers Ed for half the cost, per state law.
If there is anything we can do to assist you or your students looking to get Driver Ed complete, please let us know!
Students can sign up using the following link:
We look forward to partnering with the ICCSD, and our staff is ready to assist in getting your students through the program in a timely manner to produce safe drivers on our streets!

Step 1: Go to https://openroaddrivingschool.com
Step 2: Scroll down to “Iowa City” under “CLASS LOCATIONS” heading
Step 3: Select the dates that the student would be able to complete the class content and 6 hour driving during.
Step 4: Fill out the student information.
NOTE: If you qualify for free or reduced school fees make sure to check this box - this will need to be confirmed by school staff (School counselors - the TAP Specialist [Jeremy Cook] can help with this step as well).
Tate students: We are hoping to set up an in-person class to get this done during Tri 3. Let Jeremy Cook in 116-A and Mr. Martin know you have registered if you have done so!

Still working on those permits...
It's not just about driving. Students need to pass an I-9 check for employment, and will need to show documents in order to get a non-driver ID, Learner's Permit, or Driver's License.
Once students are able to obtain their permit (Either I can schedule with the DOT in Coralville and bring TAP students there, or guardians/parents are able to if minors, if the student provides documentation.)
Here is the site anybody needing to schedule an appointment now MUST use:
https://iowadot.gov/mvd/ServiceSelector
I still need to get students that have passed the proctored test to and from the DOT, but continue to help students get through the permit and find documents that will be needed for proof of identity and eligibility afterwards.
Emma is a champ of making sure students are able to learn skills in the community with Houses Into Homes as well as the Free Lunch Program!
