Mission Statement
St. Maria Goretti is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School aims to form what is True, Good, and Beautiful in the souls of our young disciples of Christ.
Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
Thank you for your attendance at the Back to School nights. We appreciate your partnership in the education of your children.
This week we are kicking off the annual Saint Maria Goretti School Fund Campaign! To help celebrate we are asking that everyone attend Mass the weekend of the 31st at SMG and have your child(ren) wear that Mass uniforms.
With funds raised from last year were were able to get new math books for the school this year. As I type this newsletter construction on the playground is happening. We are hoping to have it done before GorettiFest. We are so thankful for all the generous donations we received.
This year we have set a goal of $250,000! We have several projects in mind:
- Tuition Scholarships for SMG Students-our hope is to have 70 funded scholarships for 70 students. (keeping with our 70th birthday theme)
- New carpet for the school-our carpet is almost 20 years old, we would like to add tile or laminate flooring. (if you know someone who could help us let me know)
- Update our Curriculum resources for History-we focused on math this past year, we want to work giving our students history. (history resources with a Catholic focus)
I have included the link to GorettiFest on the graphic below. Please sign up to help and attend this fun SMG tradition. Be sure that your Virtus training is current. Contact Mrs. Malloy in the front office if you have any questions or concerns about this.
We will have indoor pickup until September 3, 2024. That is when we will begin outdoor carline. Be on the look out for more information about this new procedure.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

School Lunches This Year
Dear SMG parents,
Lunch will need to be ordered a day in advance by 12:00pm, however, lunches may be preordered the whole month in advance if desired. (www.laislatx.com). You have the option of ordering other lunches besides the one offered for the day; however if you do so, you need to specify the date you want that lunch delivered. Please do so under special instructions. Under Special instructions, you may do special requests, ex: no tomato. In the event your child forgets his/her lunch and you did not pre-ordered lunch, you will have the choice to allow your student to purchase lunch for that day. You will need to fill out an authorization form to have that option. If you have questions about the lunch program or your lunch account, please contact me at
laislarestaurantpantego@gmail.com. Please allow 1-2 business days for a response.
Respectfully,
Martin Zavala

PreK - I'm Not Just a Scribble
PreK created their first work of art based on the book, I'm Not Just a Scribble.
Scribble, the book's main character, never thought he was different until he met his first drawing. Then, after being left out because he didn't look like everyone else, Scribble teaches the drawings how to accept each other for who they are which enables them to create amazing art.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Music
Mara led the class in learning the song Amen which they will sing at Mass.
1st Grade Spelling Doesn't Stink!
Mrs. Girton's students practiced spelling words with scented markers.
3rd Grade Science
Students explored the magical way magnets attract metal and stick to each other. They used magnet magic to perform the floating paper clip trick.
4th Grade Practiced Making Change
6th Grade Modern Cave Art
In history class, sixth grade pretended to be archaeologists and used flashlights to study cave paintings and sculptures from the Lascaux, France cave art discovered in 1940. After the art study, students wrote hypotheses about the intentions of the artists and then designed their own modern-day cave art!
Madame Curie Visits Science Class
Mrs. Saladino dressed as Madam Curie to introduce their new scientist research assignment. We look forward to seeing SMG students dressed as their favorite scientist.
SMEED Student Creation
Thank You Home & School
We extend another THANK YOU to Home & School for the beginning of year gift bag. What teacher wouldn't welcome pens, post it notes, a journal, headache relief and an umbrella for unexpected rainy days. You are spoiling us and we love it.
TERRIFIC TROJANS
SMG students receive a Terrific Trojan sticker when they are "caught" being safe, responsible and respectful. After wearing the sticker during the day, the Terrific Trojan places it on the hallway bulletin board. We love seeing how full the bulletin board becomes by the end of the school year.
