THANK YOU, DR. BOWAR!
Even though he will still be working through much of June, we want to share our thanks with Dr. Josh Bowar for his 17 years of service to Sioux Center Christian School!
Josh started working at SCCS in 2007 as the Tech Coordinator, then served as a 5th grade teacher for six years, then Assistant Principal, Inclusive Ed Administrator and Curriculum Coordinator, and finally as Head of School for the last seven years.
Josh has been a visionary leader who has helped create alternative revenue streams, which have provided services, built community, and strengthened our financial stability as a school. He expanded our inclusive education services and implemented the Teaching for Transformation framework which has enriched our curriculum, aligning our educational practices with our Christian values, and has prepared our students to be transformative agents in the world. He has had a key role in raising over $9M towards the Blazer Center campus expansion, and was instrumental in structuring educational savings accounts at the state level and implementing them at our school, providing families with crucial financial support and enhancing our accessibility. Also during Josh’s time as Head of School, our enrollment has increased by an impressive 22%.
Yet, above all these achievements, what stands out most is his unwavering focus on Sioux Center Christian’s mission to keep Christ at the center of all we do. Josh’s faith-driven leadership has been a guiding light, ensuring that our decisions, our teaching, and our community life all reflect the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Bowar, THANK YOU for your outstanding service, your visionary leadership, and your heartfelt commitment to our school. You have left a lasting mark on our community, and we are eternally grateful.
We pray that God will bless you as you establish, grow, and strengthen Christian schools across Iowa and the country in your work through the Iowa Association of Christian Schools and the Center for the Advancement of Christian Education at Dordt University.
CONGRATULATIONS, MS. KORVER
Congratulations to Mrs. Ellen Korver on her retirement from teaching! She began teaching at SCCS in 1983 and we celebrate her 40 years of service to God's kids at SCCS. She has served as a 3rd grade teacher during her entire career here! Current students were asked what they will remember about Mrs. Korver:
• She’s a nice teacher.
• She’s very kind.
• She always smiles.
• She taught my dad.
• She taught my aunt and uncle.
• I will remember that she is the best teacher.
• She is really kind and whenever we needed help with something she was always there.
• She never gives up on us.
Thank you, Mrs. Korver, for your dedication to the mission of SCCS! We will most remember you for your joy, your deep love for kids, your dedication to Christian education, your love for others, your dedication to SCCS, and your dedication to your God. We celebrate this accomplishment with you and praise God for the gifts and talents you have blessed us with! We wish you God's blessings!
STORYLINE CELEBRATION
THANK YOU, SCCS students, families, and friends, for giving us a little taste of the eternal "full congregation of believers" as we sang songs of worship and praise at the Storyline Celebration last night!
Thank you to the Storyline Team, faculty, and staff who create lessons throughout the year that teach the elements of a growing disciple and provide students with real experiences for living out these elements!
May we daily live out the words we sang in worship to our great God!
You can watch this beautiful celebration here: https://www.siouxcenterchristian.com/curre.../livestream.cfm
This event was also a time to celebrate the retirement of Mrs. Ellen Korver, who has taught at SCCS for 40 years! When all who were taught by Mrs. Korver were asked to stand, there were SCCS alumni of all ages standing throughout the auditorium... what a wonderful testament to the lives she impacted!
School board president, Greg Van Dyke, also thanked Dr. Josh Bowar for his years of impact at SCCS. His visionary leadership has blessed our school and his passion for inclusive education, Teaching for Transformation, financial stability, and staying firm in our Reformed roots, will be felt for generations to come!
Let's praise God for blessing our school with faithful servants who love and follow Him as they disciple God's children!!
