PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Trojan Families,
Due to Hurricane Helene, our district was closed on Sept. 30, 2024; in exchange for the closure, we will have an eLearning day tomorrow, February 17th. Students will not report to campus and the school building will be closed. Please check Canvas, using your school or any personal electronic device for class assignments.
Your dedicated teachers will have their office hours from 9-12pm tomorrow to provide support and guidance. In the event students encounter any issues accessing Canvas on tomorrow, students will have a grace period of 5 days to complete any assigned work. eLearning assignments will be due Monday February 24th.
Progress reports along with instructions to review were shared last week. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's academic progress, please reach out to our amazing teachers.
In partnership,
Michael Abraham
Principal

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
9th Grade IGP Meetings
It is time for 9th grade students to schedule their IGP meeting with their School Counselor. As we develop our relationship to support your child, we invite all parents to participate in the IGP meeting. As a courtesy to parents and guardians, school counselors request your participation via phone conference while your student is with the school counselor.
Please review the Freshmen IGP video and ensure your student has scheduled their meeting.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER APPRECIATION
National School Resource Officer Day was on Saturday, February 15. We weren't in school, but we did take the time to celebrate Officer Byers last week as he plays a vital role in building relationships, ensuring a safe learning environment, and making a positive impact on young lives. To further our appreciation, we encourage our parents and students to thank Officer Byers in your own special way when you see him.
Tips from Nurse Sadie
Here are a few things parents can do to help our schools reduce the spread of illness:
Don’t send children to school if they are sick. Any children who are sick at school will be sent home. Staying home when sick will allow your children to rest and allow you to monitor their health closely.
Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or upper sleeve when you cough or sneeze.
Take time to get a flu vaccine. Flu vaccination is the best way to prevent the flu. SCDPH strongly recommends all South Carolina residents older than 6 months old get the flu vaccine as soon as possible to prevent the flu, unless they have a medical reason not to be vaccinated.
Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food or unwashed utensils.
Know the signs and symptoms of the flu and Covid.. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Fahrenheit, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and feeling very tired. Some people may also vomit or have diarrhea.

SENIOR SCOOP
COMPLETE THE FAFSA FORM
College bound students, regardless of income, who want to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs (including grants, scholarships, work-study funds, and loans) should head on over to fafsa.gov to start your form today.
ENROLL, ENLIST, EMPLOY
Seniors should be considering what they are planning to do after graduation in just a few short months. It's ok to not have a definitive plan right now, but they should be thinking about all of the available options-tech or trade school, college, military, or career opportunities. Students may speak with their school counselor or our career counselor for assistance.
Visit School Counseling / Career Planning for career counseling opportunities.
Visit School Counseling / SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES to access opportunities.
Visit School Counseling / Transcript/Records Request to request your transcript.
Save the date for Spring Graduation--Tuesday, May 27th at 1pm (Winthrop Coliseum)
PARENT PORTAL
Please be sure to log in to PowerSchool to keep up with students' academic progress and attendance. The system is live, so as teachers are updating grades and attendance, you can see it immediately. You may also set up notifications for Parent Portal to contact you about your child's progress on a weekly basis, daily basis, or anytime a new grade or attendance code has been entered.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
- Students must be present for at least 60 minutes to get credit for attending class.
- Parents may submit up to three parent notes per semester or a total of 6 per school year. If your student is absent, please submit an excuse to nwabsencedocumentation@rhmail.org within three days of the absence.
