A Message from the Principal
Wow! Summertime is coming to an end, but that just means new beginnings for our students! We are so excited to welcome our students, staff, and families back for the 24-25 school year. This will be High Plains School’s 9th year!!! It’s been an incredible journey and we are truly blessed with an AMAZING community; the best in Thompson School District!
Starting with this Family newsletter, families will receive a weekly Family newsletter each Sunday via their email. This newsletter will include information about school wide events, important “need to know” information for families, Family-Student Handbook reminders, volunteer opportunities, and much more! When staff return in August, they will also have their own communications but PLEASE remember to read the Sunday Family newsletter each week! If you are not receiving the newsletter, please check and update your contact information in Infinite Campus or contact our main office, if you need assistance.
This will be an incredible year! We are so looking forward to seeing all of our returning and new Bison Families. Until then, enjoy these hot summer days, read our Sunday Family newsletter, and get ready to Stampede into year 9 with Blue and our whole Bison community!
Sincerely,
Danielle Feeney
Principal
If you are a family new to High Plains or a family that has not toured the building and would like to, you are welcome to a tour on Aug. 1st starting at 9am. Please RSVP at this link. This is an opportunity to tour the building, meet our administrative and office staff, and ask questions!
Document Drop Off
New students and families needing to drop off Immunizations, Birth Certificates, or Proof of Address please stop by the office on August 8/1 between 8:00am - 11:00am OR 1:00pm - 3:00pm. You can always send your documents to hpsregistrar@tsd.org as well.
Meet and Greet and Bison Family-School Connections Nights
Meet and Greet Night is on August 13th. It is an opportunity to tour the building, get class rosters and schedules, pay fees, learn about student extra curricular opportunities and family volunteer/support opportunities, and drop off school supplies. Families are welcome to drop in any time between 4:30-6pm.
On August 29th, 5-7pm Bison Staff will invite families to Bison Family-School Connections Night. This is an in-depth presentation and Q&A time to get to know your child’s learning community and expectations. We know that Meet & Greet Night can be too quick to absorb all the information at the start of the year. We wish to provide our undivided attention to families with this structured time.
Teachers will share surveys with families prior to Aug. 29th to solicit questions and specific topics they may want to have included in this time. K-5 families will attend sessions (20 minutes each to allow families with multiple students to visit other grade levels) from 5-6pm. 6th-8th Grade families will attend sessions from 6-7pm. Please keep an eye out for additional details from your child’s teacher (once they return in August).
Kindergarten and 6th Grade Transition Day
August 14th is when our kindergarteners and 6th graders start school. This is a Wednesday Late Start day! Students may enter the building starting at 9am. Kinder parents, after you drop your kinder child off at the kinder door, swing around to the front entrance to join our PTCO in the cafe! It’s our Tears and Cheers event where families can meet other families, hear from our PTCO and principal, and enjoy some light food and beverages as you build relationships with fellow Bison families. Please have an ID ready to show the office staff prior to entering the building.
Sixth grade students that took their devices home need to bring the device and the charger to school! Sixth grade students will enter the main entrance door starting at 9am. Students may go to the cafe for breakfast or directly to their advisory class.
First Day for ALL K-8 Students
All students are back in school on August 15th. School hours are 8:20-3:35 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 9:20-3:35 on Wednesdays. Students should not be left unattended prior to 8am (9am on Wed). There is no supervision until those times. Students may eat breakfast and/or go to their classroom, if they arrive between 8-8:15 (9-9:15 Wed). The final bell is 8:20am. Students should be in their seat, ready to learn! See our website at this link for more details on drop off and pick up. Any 1st-5th grade students who took their device home for summer school and all 7th-8th grade students need to bring their device and charger to school!
Meal Benefit Application (it includes more than meals!)
With the passage of Healthy School Meals for All in Colorado, breakfast and lunch are no cost to students, regardless of income or meal benefit status. Families are encouraged to apply for meal benefits, even though meals are free because they may qualify to receive discounted or waived fees for programs inside and outside of the school district. Applications are available to all households at school sites and online at www.myschoolapps.com. Applications need to be completed annually (after mid-July) for the new school year. The information provided on the application is confidential and is not shared without your consent. Nutritional Services Website
Annual Family Update - needs to be done ASAP
Annual Family Check-In (AFC) is required for ALL current students in Thompson School District. Families are required to have a parent or guardian in the current student’s primary household review and sign permission forms and update (if needed) the student’s household information, emergency contacts, and health information. Annual Family Check-In is located in the Parent Portal Account. For assistance, please contact Portal@TSD.org.
Please click on "More" in your Parent Portal Account for the AFC Link, then select Begin Registration.
When doing your Annual Family Check In on Infinite Campus you can register your incoming 24/25 Kindergartner. This will help us to plan for next year.

WatchDOG Event
Dear High Plains School Fathers and Father-figures, On Wednesday, August 21, from 6-7pm, High Plains School will be having our annual “Dads and Kids'' Pizza Night at our school. We will meet in the school cafeteria at 6:00pm for FREE pizza and drinks. At 6:20pm we will have a presentation about the High Plains WatchD.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program. WatchDOGS is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps each school be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their students’ life. Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears. Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads and adult brothers… this is your chance to have a night out alone with your student in a fun atmosphere at school. We look forward to seeing you there!
If you have any questions, please contact Karen Helfrich at karen.helfrich@tsd.org or (970)679-9806.
