Happy Friday, Everitt Families!
I hope your children enjoyed their day off today. We had a wonderful day of planning and learning together at Everitt. We so appreciate the time that we have to collaborate together to create amazing learning opportunities for students.
I wanted to share with you about our CDE school performance framework this year. I am so very proud of the hard work of our students and teachers. Our students grew six points in math achievement and four points in math growth this year on CMAS. Our school has also grown 13.9 points over the past two years on our school performance framework. Our work isn't finished and we will all continue to strive to show the state of Colorado how amazing our Everitt scholars are!
One of our goals this year is to increase the sense of belonging felt by students. Belonging is important at any age but in the middle school years proves especially important due to increased need for peer connection and desire for peer approval. As I've mentioned in previous newsletters, one of the ways that we are working on belonging is through our crews. At the end of each month, we will have our students take a survey about their sense of belonging in their crews. Our August 2024 student survey data shows around a 20% increase from our Spring 2024 data in terms of student belonging. We are proud of our students for creating a space of belonging for each other and will continue to work to make sure that every Everitt student knows how much they matter to us and that they belong here.
Next week is spirit week and our first spirit assembly. See below for spirit days. Our grade levels compete against each other during the week for the coveted spirit award. Our current 7th and 8th graders proved to be quite spirited last year. Our spirit assembly will be at the end of the day on Friday and will feature our students and the amazing students of Wheat Ridge High School in honor of their homecoming week. I will be sure to share lots of pictures next week!
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

OCTOBER COUNT 2024
It’s official – October Count Day this year is Tuesday, October 1.
The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, so we encourage you to make sure your student comes to school that day.
The “count window” the state observes is from Tuesday, September 24 through Tuesday, October 8, but the most important student count day is Tuesday, October 1. Help us get an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day.
If your student will be absent on Tuesday, October 1 due to illness, please call our attendance line, [303-982-1580] to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Tuesday, October 1.
Thank you for your support of Everitt Middle School. Every student counts!
Apply Now: Student Benefits Application for 2024-2025
Thanks to Healthy School Meals for All (HSMA), the district will continue to provide all students with one breakfast and one lunch daily at no cost through the 2024-25 school year, regardless of income eligibility.
.
Though meals are free for all Jeffco students, families are still encouraged to visit SchoolCafé and complete a Student Benefits Application. While this application does not determine your student’s access to meals under the HSMA program, it may help their school secure additional state or federal funding. Additionally, your student(s) may be eligible for other benefits, such as school-related fees or testing fees (Outdoor Lab fees, field trips, class fees, transportation, district fees), based on information provided on the application.
Student Benefits Applications are now available on SchoolCafé for the 2024-25 school year. If you need a paper application, please contact Jeffco’s Free & Reduced Lunch Specialist, Lorena Gomez-Vazquez, at 303-982-6916 with additional questions. Visit the Free & Reduced Meals webpage to learn more.
Thank you for your support in nourishing our learners: our future. We look forward to serving your student(s) healthy and delicious meals this school year.

How Sick is Too Sick?
Jeffco follows the recommendations from Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) on when students and staff should stay home from school, work or child care.
There are four main reasons for children and adults to stay home:
The child or staff member could infect others with a contagious illness, either because of symptoms, a diagnosis or recent exposure to a contagious illness.
The child or staff member does not feel well enough to take part in usual activities. For example, a child is overly tired, fussy or will not stop crying.
A child needs more care than teachers and staff can give while still caring for the other children.
The child or staff member has symptoms or an illness on the CDPHE public guidance document, and staying home is required.

Book Study Opportunity
I would love to have as many families (and students, staff members, and community members) as want to join me for a book study on the book 10-25:The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager. The book is about how to help young people between the ages of 10 and 25 to feel inspired, enthusiastic, and ready to contribute rather than discouraged, outraged or overwhelmed. I am loving the book so far and I think you will too. It is equally powerful for parents, educators, mentors, coaches, and managers. We are going to be meeting on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 starting next week. Purchase the book, read chapter 2, and join us!
David Yeager, author of 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People - Raising Good Humans Podcast (starting at about minute 30 gets you to the section where he is more focused on application in education).

Panorama Social Emotional Learning Student Survey (Grades 6-8)
Family Notification Letter
2024-25 School Year
Dear Families:
Panorama Education is a company who conducts student and family surveys in schools and districts across the country. Everitt Middle School will be giving students the Panorama Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Student Survey 2-3 times per year.
Content. The Panorama student survey gathers information on the following areas/competencies of social emotional skills:
Self-Awareness
Self-Management
Social Awareness
Relationship Skills
Responsible Decision-Making
You may review the survey questions by visiting this link. For more information on the SEL competencies visit this link.
The results are compiled into both individual and group summaries of social emotional skill progress. These reports are used by district leaders and school staff to guide our development of school-wide, small group, and/or individual social emotional support. You will be notified if your child is invited to join a small group or individual intervention.
It is Voluntary. Your child does not have to take the student survey.
It is Confidential. No students will be identified in any public reports or publications. Individual student information (name, student number, school and grade) will be uploaded into the Panorama system, as with other Panorama surveys. Individual student data may be shared with school staff to provide instructional and social emotional support.
Timing: The survey will be administered in the fall, winter, and optionally in the spring. It will take about 10 minutes.
Opt Out: If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, you may contact Caroline Curtiss, Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Caroline.Curtiss@jeffco.k12.co.us by September 20, 2024.

Crew Celebrations
Shawn V tries his best in everything that we do in PE and includes everybody. He is a leader among everyone in our class and leads by a positive example.
Gust D stepped up huge in our Crew challenges this week. He took on the leader of group without hesitation and helped everyone be successful during the challenges.
Khloe A is working very hard this school year, has no missing assignments, and is aiming for all A's in her classes. I am so proud of all the hard work she has been doing. She has excellent focus and won't let anything stop her from achieving her goals.
Iver M stepped up huge in our Crew challenges this week. He took on the leader of group without hesitation and helped everyone be successful during the challenges.
Captain B takes on leadership roles in my classroom all the time, and always rises to the occasion. This is a direct reflection of his respectful, kind, and inclusive character.
Crosby K works excellently with our adapted PE class. He helps out the students in our SSN program to be successful at any and all sports that we play. Crosby helps all his classmates be successful.
At 6th grade recess, Yosseph M practiced inclusion by including everyone in the football game they were playing. In the midst of being super competitive, Yosseph also made sure everyone was included and felt a part of the game.
Senci L always shows up to class ready to learn and shows everyone in our class the most respect. She leads by a positive example for everyone else in our class to follow.
Avery M joined our class late but jumped in without skipping a beat. She shows up everyday and is respectful of everyone, participates her best, and helps everyone else out around her. She has endless amounts of kindness and positivity.
Ru G is very helpful with Crew. Great job!
Natalie B has been volunteering more to share answers in Social Studies. She is willing to be brave and her questions and responses are deepening the learning of her classmates. I am very proud of her!
Alex D comes in everyday with a positive attitude and is ready to go. He sets a good example for his fellow classmates by being respectful and having a growth mindset.
Henry P is a rock star. He helps out anyone and everyone in our class and continues to be a leader not just in our class but our school as a whole as well. He checks in with everyone to make sure they are doing okay and having a good day. Henry is a great role model for all students in our school.
