LMS Family Update
December 9, 2024
Greetings Lockerman Families,
We know this is a busy time of year, and just want to thank you for your continued engagement. Based on your input, we are excited to be kicking off some Anti-Bullying education with an assembly later this week! We will be following up with lessons on this topic throughout the winter and spring, and hope to bring a parent series to you in the near future as well. We will be learning what bullying is and isn't, and students will be encouraged to "drop the mic" on bullying. Please continue these conversations at home.
You may have seen our band and chorus out and about in recent days at the Festival of Trees, and in the Denton holiday parade. We invite all LMS families to join us for the LMS music department's winter concert on December 17th at 6pm in the NCHS auditorium.
Finally, our SGA and NJHS are both hosting collections for charitable organizations in the spirit of the season. Toy donations are due 12/10 for SGA's toy drive in collaboration with the American Legion. Toys must be new and unwrapped. NJHS will continue collecting new or gently used coats, gloves, hats and scarves until 12/20. Students should turn all donations into their homeroom teachers to be tracked for service learning. Students will complete a brief reflection to submit for service learning, and can earn up to 3 hours for participating in each drive.
From our LMS family to yours, we wish each of you a happy holiday season! Please reach out if we can be of any assistance. In the meantime, please see below for important information and updates.

Social Emotional Well-Being
Did you know? Bullying and conflict are different. We can help your child with both. Learning how to navigate conflict is a normal part of a child's social development. Teach and reinforce kindness in all situations. Report bullying, and empower bystanders and victims.

Are you a renter or know renters? Do you or those you know have questions about tenant rights? Increasing rents, availability of rentals and other factors are impacting current and prospective renters. In 2024 several new Maryland laws regarding tenants rights went into effect. Shore Legal Access, Minary’s Dream Alliance and Caroline Better Together’s Housing Stability Workgroup are providing an in-person education session to share information for tenants about their legal rights and responsibilities and how to access support for housing related legal issues.

We join our Choptank Health partners in wishing you and your family a safe and healthy holiday season and new year. To help keep you and your family as healthy as you can be, our Choptank Health partners are providing these three tips for staying well over the holidays:
1. Wash Your Hands – You can help your children learn the importance of hand-washing by making it a family activity. Good hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of infection!
Follow these five steps every time:
1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands,
between your fingers, and under your nails.
3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer.
2. If you have respiratory symptoms (cough, congestion, sneezing, sore throat, etc.) please consider testing yourself for COVID and wearing a mask. Masks help protect us from illnesses that are spread through respiratory droplets! Click on this link to sign up for your free tests: https://www.covid.gov/tests.
3. Get your Flu Shot and updated COVID-19 vaccine, with both usually given at the same time. You can learn more by reaching out to your health care or school-based healthcare provider or finding locations for vaccines near you at www.vaccines.gov.
You can learn more about the best practices for handwashing at www.cdc.gov/handwashing/.

Healthy vision and hearing is important for your child’s success in school. State law requires school systems to have students’ hearing and vision screened when they enter the school system and in eighth grade. Screenings are scheduled to begin the week of December 9, 2024.
Students who should not be included in the screenings include:
Those whose parents/guardians object in writing to the screenings on the grounds that it conflicts with the tenets and practice of a recognized church or religious denomination of which they are a member;
Those with known hearing loss, including but not limited to, students with cochlear implants or hearing aids; and
Those who present evidence of testing within the last year.
If your child falls into any of these categories or if you have any questions, please reach out to the school nurse at 410-479-3277 or via email at eatontribbitt.christina@ccpsstaff.org

Communication Procedures
We value our home-school partnerships and want to be available to you, but during the student school day, administrator and counselor availability may be limited as we work with students and in classrooms. When calling during the school day, please let the secretary know if it is urgent. Otherwise, please know we may not be able to call you back until after dismissal. If you want to meet in person, please call to schedule an appointment. We understand that sometimes urgent matters arise that can not be planned for, and we will always do our best to accommodate you.
Emailing School & District Staff
Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.
Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.
