December Principal's Newsletter
December 8, 2024
On behalf of Mr. Z and I, we want to extend to all our students, staff and families who celebrate, a Happy Hanukkah, a Merry Christmas, a Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year!
We truly hope everyone enjoys the winter break with friends and family. We look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!
PTO Holiday Shop
Our PTO Holiday Shop will take place Monday, December 9th - Thursday, December 11th in the Grandview Elementary Library during the school day (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.). Your child's teacher will communicate when their class will be attending. If you are sending your child with money to participate, we ask that you send the money in an envelope with the child's name, amount of money, and grade.
The Holiday Shop will also be open to families on Friday, December 13th 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
If you would like to help with the PTO Holiday Shop, please email Gvimpto@gmail.com and jcappuccino@mv.org .
Winter Weather
We ask that all students are sent to school with proper winter wear each day. Please review our weather conditions for outdoor recess below. Please also check our Lost and Found. We have many coats looking for their proper owner!
Weather Conditions
Students will play outdoors when:
Temperatures are above 25℉ with consideration given to wind chill factor (www.weather.com)
There is light precipitation (e.g. snow flurries, drizzle)
Snow is on the ground, depending upon how different play areas are affected

Students will be permitted to use playground equipment, fields, and asphalt play areas when conditions are suitable for safe play. Safety considerations included:
Equipment that is dry and ice free
Fields that are not muddy or icy and asphalt play areas that are not icy

During the month of November we had 61 behavior referrals including 29 majors and 31 minors. 29 referrals came from behaviors in the classroom, while 11 came from the playground, and 10 came from the cafeteria. The top 3 most common behaviors were defiance, minor contact, and disrespect. Although we will all continue to work on these behaviors it is positive to see that Major physical aggression fell out of the top 3 for the month. Overall, our students showed fewer unexpected behaviors in the month of November compared to the first two months of the school year. Another positive to highlight from this month was that fourth graders generated 0 behavior referrals.
We strongly encourage you to speak to your child(ren) about threatening language and bringing, or drawing any type of weapon real or a replica to/in school. These are direct violations to our Student Code of Conduct and Weapons Policy and will not be taken lightly.
This Month in Classroom Champions is all about Community
This month in Classroom Champions, Rosie will talking about Community! This month, our students will learn that we all need support to accomplish dreams and our communities are a great source of this support. Community service has long been seen as an effective way to build empathy in children and adolescents. We encourage our students to participate in a community service event this month!
Our December Citizen of the month will focus on someone who participates and serves our school community or Morrisville community!
Our Student Government is hosting a food drive to help those in need in our local school community. Please consider donating to this great cause! Please send in any donated items in by Thursday, December 12th!
See what Rosie has to teach us about Community this month!
