Happenings at the Hive
May 9, 2025
Dear Solon Stinger Families,
As we move through the month of May, there is a sense of excitement in the air at Solon. The final weeks of school are filled with energy and joy as we dive into some of our favorite end-of-year traditions: field trips, Field Day, Talent Show, Awards Day, and classroom celebrations are just a few of the special events on the horizon, and each grade level has its own memorable moments planned. Whether students are exploring new places, participating in creative learning experiences, or enjoying themed days with their classmates, there’s so much to look forward to!
Even with all the fun, our commitment to learning remains strong. Teaching and learning are continuing in every classroom as students reflect on how much they’ve grown and apply all they’ve learned this year. We’re so proud of their hard work and perseverance!
We also want to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful families—and especially our amazing PTO—for an unforgettable Educator Appreciation Week. Our staff felt truly celebrated and loved. From delicious meals and beautiful flowers to thoughtful notes, gifts, and kind words, your generosity and support meant the world to us. Thank you for making Solon such a caring and uplifting community.
There’s still a lot of fun and learning to come—we are excited for the next three weeks of school!
Yours in learning,
The Solon Robinson Elementary Team

Incoming 6th Grade Parent Nights - Taft and Wheeler
What's Happening in Fifth Grade?
Ms. DeLaughter's Class
In our 5th grade classroom, we've been wrapping up some exciting units with hands-on and creative projects! To conclude our Native American Unit, students made totem poles with their own little flair! We've also been bringing Shakespeare to life by performing skits from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, showcasing our understanding of the play in a fun and dramatic way. The students also made their own props and costumes for a fun culminating activity performing "Twisted Fairytales." With the arrival of warm, sunny days, there's been plenty of energy and excitement—we're practically "jumping out of our shoes!" And of course, we're gearing up for our big Challenger mission, building teamwork and problem-solving skills for the exciting simulation ahead.
Ms. Ewen's Class
Students in Ms. Ewen’s class have been reading, analyzing, and performing William Shakespeare’s, A Midsummer Night’s Dream in CKLA. They have been creating props out of construction paper and acting out scenes together. The kids have been able to showcase their acting talents as they have portrayed the characters in the play. They have worked hard and learned a lot in this unit. It has been a lot of fun!
Ms. Wool's Class
Ms. Wool’s 5th graders have had quite a busy semester so far! We started off the semester with our CKLA Renaissance Unit, finishing up with our culminating activities of drawing, painting, or sculpting “Renaissance Artist Style.” We had a fun Valentine’s Day party and strolled down the hall to a 2nd grade classroom to visit the baby chicks. Then we moved onto our CKLA acting unit and practiced performing scenes from Midsummer Night’s Dream. Playing with our new playground balls purchased by PTO has also been a blast! Finally, we were able to perform our “Fractured Fairy Tales” for CKLA on the stage in the gym. It’s been a busy semester with many more fun activities to come! We have such a great class and have fun together!
