CPHS Counseling Center
Newsletter and Events 2019-2020
It's hard to believe that we are already a month into the new school year. Despite all of the beginning of year challenges, the counseling department at CPHS is absolutely grateful for all of the faculty, staff, parent volunteers, and community support we've experienced. Focusing on students and student achievement is and will always be our number one priority.
We are well into our 4th week of school and wanted to take a moment to introduce our newsletter to you. This publication and others in the future will house information that the counseling department believes is important to you and your family.
In addition, our Counseling Center website is full of information for you regarding academic, social, or career questions. Click here to access.

Pre-AP/AP Level-Down Window
September 13th-October 4th
Per LISD policy, students struggling in a Pre-AP or AP class may request to level down to an on level course after the 3rd week of school. This year, forms will be available in the Counseling office from September 13th through October 4th. If the request is granted, it is likely the student’s order of classes will be rearranged in order to fit the new on level class as a straight swap is not always possible. Requests will be granted on a case by case basis. In most cases, students can attend tutorials and work with their teachers to get back on track and be successful in the advanced coursework. Open communication with the teacher is critical for success. Forms will become available in the counseling office on Friday, Sept. 15th.
Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month. This year, the Suicide Prevention Lifeline is using #BeThe1To for their campaign. They (and we) want to change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention, to actions that can promote healing, help, and give hope.
