Parent Teacher Conferences
Sign ups for this year’s Parent Teacher Conferences will begin next Friday, October 11 and will close at 11:59pm on Thursday, October 31. Specific instructions on how to sign up will be shared via a letter to all families next week and will also be posted in next week’s Souhegan Scoop.
Honors Challenge
Honors Challenge enrollment has officially started! Teachers have shared information about course-specific Honors Challenges over the last few weeks. We recommend that students and parents review this information together to make an informed decision about which Honors Challenges would be best for this school year. Both students and parents must formally enroll via PowerSchool. Please review the explanatory letter that was sent two weeks ago, also linked here, for information about our Honors Challenge and how to enroll. Enrollment will be available until 10/11.
School Highlights
Construction Career Day
Souhegan was fortunate to return, with several students, to NH Construction Career Days at the New Boston Fairgrounds on September 27th. Students, accompanied by counselors Erin Perry and Kara Claridge, as well as Student Learning Coordinator Matt McDonald, had the opportunity to explore possible career paths in both the construction and transportation industries through hands-on exhibits and educational resources. Students operated heavy equipment, had a chance to try welding, and check out several other options in the trades. Any Seniors who missed the opportunity to attend, and are interested in going into the workforce right after high school, can connect with Matt McDonald in the Learning Commons or a counselor to help you get in touch with employers from the event.

Senior Year Notes
New Hampshire Scholars
New Hampshire Scholars is a state initiative that encourages students to take a rigorous course of study in high school. Based on a student's course of study, they can be recognized in the Core Distinction, STEM, Arts, STEAM, or Career Pathways. In order to be recognized as a New Hampshire Scholar, students must submit this NH Scholars Four-Year Planner with their indicated pathway to their school counselor.
Please see the deadline below:
Students should submit the planner no later than December 6th. Students that want “NH Scholar” reflected on their transcript for early action deadlines should get the form to their school counselor as soon as possible and no later than the gold form deadline for their school.

What is your role at Souhegan?
English Teacher
How long have you been with Souhegan?
The school year will be my 28th.
What do you love about your job?
I love that it's new every day. You can read the same piece of literature with different classes, and they will have completely different reactions and insights. So I guess that's the main thing - after all these years I'm still surprised at least a couple times a week.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love building stuff, I really like to play the guitar, I like going for early morning runs, but definitely being a dad for the past 23 years has been the highlight!
If you were given one wish what would it be?
My first wish would be a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, my second, world peace.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." From Hamlet, by Shakespeare

PTSA
The Souhegan Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) supports Souhegan students. Think of the PTSA like a booster club for all things high school, not a specific sport or club. The PTSA collaborates with school administration and staff to provide input on various matters affecting students and families, along with funding. Interested in becoming a member? Click here!
