Dear Everitt Families:
Happy Friday, Everitt families!
We have had a lovely learning day with our staff today. We reviewed middle school development and talked about ways to ensure that our work is aligned to the developmental needs of middle school students. There was a moment when the staff met in pairs to discuss what they love about middle school students. It was so fun to hear each group share out what they talked about and the energy with which they talked about it. It reconfirmed that your children are surrounded by people who love working with middle schoolers and who are committed to this special age group.
Today you may see some Everitt staff members in your neighborhoods. We are beginning yard sign and 6th grade packet (including schedules for next year!) distribution today. We would love to meet our new 6th grade families if you are around when we come by.
Our 8th grade formal dance last night was a huge success! Thank you to PTA, student council and our parent and staff chaperones for making last night so much fun for all of our 8th graders.
Wellness Day is this next Friday! It is a day dedicated to all forms of wellness for students. Kids will select activities to participate in throughout the morning and will do lessons focused on the Sources of Strength areas of strength in the afternoon. This is our second annual event and it is sure to be an amazing day!
We will be doing our final round of MAP testing next week as well. We look forward to sharing the data with you. We will use this round of data to determine class placements for next year and can't wait to see all of the growth that students have made this year.
Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Important Message from 6th Grade
Dear Everitt Parents Of The 6th Grade,
Hello Everitt Families. Our names are Ava and Harper and we are about to inform you about paper waste. Paper waste is a really big problem in our school. We did a survey on the 6th grade and the results were saying that 67.7% of the 6th graders said that they saw paper scraps around the school. Also, 22.6% of the students said that they didn't have a recycling bin at home for used paper. Also, 54.8% of the 6th grade said that they threw away lots of paper a day. We also interviewed the janitor ( Mr. Anthony) and he said that he sees kids all the time throwing away paper and crumbling it up and throwing it on the ground. Also, Mr. Anthony told us that after school he goes around and picks up all the paper scraps and puts them in the recycling bin. So Everitt families, we are asking you to please inform your kids to recycle and save the trees. Thank you!
These few weeks, my group has been working and researching the topic of littering. Most people from my school Everitt during lunch they have been littering. We have been doing a project about the causes of littering here at Everitt . 47 out of 79 students have said they would help our school to prevent littering, that is 60% of students, which is above 50%. About 37 students said they see a lot of trash ,that is about 44% of students . That shows that here at Everitt this is a bad situation here if you tell me. Here at Everitt, littering is making our school look unpresentable. Littering affects the environment by air pollution and land pollution. This one example is that about 8 million tons of plastic waste find its way into the oceans every year. But one reason why this is so important is because litter lands into the ocean so that means that sea animals sometimes think it's food and they think it's ok to eat it until they suffocate or get trapped inside the plastic. As you can see littering seems and is very horrible to our environment. I was telling you this to inform you what is happening to the earth and environment from littering.

PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION) CORNER:
Our focus is on building lasting connections between families, getting to know our student’s teachers, and creating opportunities to come together as a community, valuing our diversity and celebrating our differences.
Camp Everitt Brainstorming: For the last several years, Camp Everitt has provided a meaningful way for new and returning students (especially our incoming 6th graders) to interact with one another before the school year begins. Currently, we have a lack of funds to operate this wonderful camp, and we would love to brainstorm with you to find new funding resources and possibly reimagine Camp Everitt so it can still happen this summer! If you would like to be part of this "think group," please email everittpta@gmail.com as soon as possible!

Summer A. - In social studies, Summer offered to help a student that was behind catch up on the notes for that day. Not only had she completed the assignment, but she was thinking about others and her class and community!
Royce P. - Royce helped "coach" other students while playing baseball. He helped them adjust their skills and technique so they could be successful. In the future, I could see Royce being an excellent coach of baseball or any sport in general due to his willingness to help others!

Captain B. - Captain has grown so much academically and socially in my class this year. Captain really persevered through writing his informational piece on Global Pollution. He showed his teammates that they could depend on him to produce something powerful. Also, I can always count on Captain to participate and his thinking really elevates our whole class conversations. Way to go Captain! You are awesome!
Genesia A. - Genesia took the liberty to present her climate change project to CBS News. Yes, that's right. She contacted a news representative and shared her entire research on paper/food waste with them in the hopes of spreading awareness around climate change issues. Genesia - your activism is contagious and we are all here for it! Go you!
North C. - North has been competing quality work in Science class and is using his time wisely in class.
Jeter V. - Jeter did a remarkable job in his lead role as Trunchbull. I am in awe of his tenacity to get the role he wanted and for always having his lines ready, and performing with such power on stage. I can't wait to see what else he does on the stage!
Hailey K. - I am so amazed by the leadership Hailey demonstrates in all of her classes. She is often the only one ready to rehearse and I am impressed how others follow her lead. I am so grateful for all she does to make our classroom a positive setting for all.
Autumn L. - Autumn was a remarkable stage manager for our musical. The students listened to Autumn because she leads with kindness. She does what is right, was respectful to the many adults backstage and helped in creating a successful production. Autumn is full of humor, joy, and kindness that makes her a true leader.
