Parking Lot Safety Request from our Principal
Dear Westgate Families,
In an effort to ensure the safety of everyone in the school parking lot, we are once again asking for your assistance.
As you may be aware, the parking lot at Westgate Elementary School has limited space. Staff is expected to arrive at 8:15am. However, on some days when staff members arrive at their scheduled time of 8:15, there are no parking spots available. To help alleviate this problem, as a reminder, students and families should not arrive to school to drop off students before 8:35am.
Also, as a reminder there is only one entrance/exit to the parking lot. With this being said, we have noticed there has been an increase in the number of cars being side-swiped and individuals almost being hit while walking through the parking lot during arrival and dismissal.
We are asking, if there is a need to park your car when you bring your student to school or when picking up your student at dismissal, please either park in one of the visitor spots; park on the street along Huron Ave. or park in the Westgate Recreation Center parking lot. We greatly appreciate your assistance and support.

Scholastic Book Fair - February 3rd - 7th
Our February Scholastic Book Fair is under way. Students are allowed to shop during their class's regularly scheduled library time. Also, if a student misses their library time and has money to spend, they can request permission from their classroom teacher to visit the library during a convenient time of day to make their purchases.
Also, parents are invited to attend our BAGELS & BOOKS event with their students, Friday, 2/7, in the library from 8:00 - 8:55 a.m. This is a great time to check out the selection of books, meet other families, all while enjoying a coffee/juice/bagel. Hope to see you there!
Westgate's Read-A-Thon Has Begun!
Flyers were sent home with students with information to guide parents on how to set up their personal read-a-thon accounts. This is a great way for our students to practice their reading AND support their school. All money raised will go to the many ways our PTA supports Westgate....field trip costs, classroom rewards, teacher wish lists, book fair scholarships, the new gaga ball pit, just to name a few. We appreciate everyone's support!
