Oceanside High School Weekly Update
09/13/2024
The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates,
As we wrap up another busy week, I want to take a moment to recognize the incredible efforts of our students and staff. This week was packed with sports, clubs, and activities, with students giving their all to shine on the field, on stage, and in the classroom. A special shout-out to everyone who worked so hard to do their best on the math and ELA tests—your dedication and focus are what make our Oceanside community so strong!
Looking ahead, we have another exciting week filled with opportunities to show our Pirate Pride. Let’s continue to work hard, hold ourselves accountable, and maintain the high expectations that make us who we are. Every day is a chance to grow, improve, and support each other as we sail toward success.
Keep up the great work, and let's make next week even better!
Have a safe and fantastic weekend!

Pirate Sports Update
From the sports deck:
Cross Country continues to shine
The Oceanside cross country teams make their yearly trek to Chula Vista's Rohr Park for the Ian Cummings/Tim Latham Invitational and return with mixed results.
Last Friday, the Pirates returned home, stuffed the underneath compartments of the charter bus with a treasure trove of awards.
For the first time, the girls won the event by eight points in the 27-team field, while the boys team took fifth place. Because of the heat advisory, the course was shortened to 2 miles as Oceanside brought home 16 individual medals amongst both teams.
In the girls race, Malia Guillen continues to be as hot as the weather, winning her third consecutive invitational race by 20 seconds with a personal best time of 12:08. Freshman Kori Perry (13:03) and Caleigha Kelly (14:01) made huge improvements, while Aubrie Johnson, Amaya Hernandez, Addison Ashby and Kaylee Thoreson ran in a tight pack to secure the victory.
For the boys, senior medalists Yan Bautista (11:06) and Alexis Torres (11:13) were top 10 finishers.
Boys water polo thumps RB and sinks Del Norte
The Oceanside boys water polo team used its law firm of Dubois & Dorse to get a 14-9 judgement against Rancho Bernardo in non-league action Tuesday afternoon.
Collin Dubois scored nine goals and goalie Kaleb Dasher made 10 saves and had 4 steals to seal the deal. Jake Bennett scored twice and Jones Martindale, Ben Gysler, Josh Francis added a goal each. Danny Fritz helped lead the defense with four steals.
The Oceanside boys water polo used a balanced attack to defeat host Del Norte, 15-11, in non-league action Thursday night.
Colin DuBois led the Pirates with five goals, four steals and two assists. Jake Bennett added three goals and Van Hartman scored twice. Federico Cancian and Shane Gayle both had goals for the Pirates, while Danny Fritz had four steals. Goalie Kaleb Dorse made 11 saves.
Girls golf trounces Cougars and hits lucky seven
To borrow a lyric from 90s band Limp Bizkit, the OHS girls golf team is "Rollin, Rollin."
The Pirates won their sixth consecutive match, defeating Escondido, 235-316, at the Twin Oaks Golf Club Tuesday.
Kassidy Stevens was the match medalist with a 41, while Danyele Bertino (46) and Leila Kai Hernandez (47) were the other low scorers Oceanside (6-1 overall)
There's no place like home for the Oceanside girls golf team.
With the newly renovated Oceanside Municipal Golf Course ready for action, the Pirates defeated Escondido, 234-299, Thursday afternoon.
Kassidy Stevens earned another medalist honor with a 39. Danyele Bertino had a 47 and Leila Kai Hernandez shot a 48 for Oceanside, which has won seven consecutive matches.
OHS PTSO
We are in urgent need of parents to step into Board Positions for next year. Please contact us if you are interested. PTSO is volunteer run and needs new parents to step in as others "graduate". Our organization fills a lot of gaps in our community to support clubs, CTE pathways, students and our amazing teachers and staff.
For those new to OHS, PTSO includes Parents, Teachers and Students to support the school community. Some of our goals are to promote parent interaction, support the faculty and staff and promote student achievement. Each year is a bit different so we welcome your ideas on ways we can support the school. The donations we receive and the funds we raise go toward staff appreciation events, teacher and club grants, student events, and more. We work closely with our principal Mrs.Garrahy, the administrators and counseling team to be responsive to current needs. All members have a vote in how our funds are used and we have a few openings for leadership positions if you want to give some time.
If you would like to join us or renew your membership for the year, please fill out the form here: OHS PTSO Form . If you are interested in volunteering or serving on the board, please indicate that on the form.
Whether you participate in meetings or not, you can support our efforts with a tax-deductible donation. Please go here: PTSO Donation Page (Paypal or CC) or use our new venmo @osideptso. And please join us for our restaurant nights throughout the year.
We typically meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Stay connected with us by joining our Facebook group @Oceanside High School PTSO Parents for Pirates or following us on Instagram @piratesptso. We also encourage you to choose Oceanside High School PTSO as your designated charity in your AmazonSmile account. https://smile.amazon.com/ch/77-0684642
