Dear Cypress Springs Families,
It is hard to believe we are already at Spring Break! Everything will begin to move very quickly! Please remind your scholars that every day and every class period counts!
We are so proud of our scholars and we have so much to celebrate!
Robotics, Art, Academic UIL - all had state qualifiers!
We have two Questbridge Scholars with full ride scholarships to Vanderbilt and Duke universities.
We have both basketball district championships and both Coaches of the Year!
We have FIVE Wrestling STATE Finalists.
We have student athletes being recruited South Carolina, Harvard, Yale, Navy, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Oklahoma, SMU... and the list goes on...
We have improved our attendance by 2 points over last year.
We are on track to (far) exceeds all our academic goals from last year.
Several of our teachers are also Cy Springs parents!
Tell a friend - if you want a top notch education in a smaller setting, Cypress Springs is an open campus next year. Come and be a part of the greatness!!!
DROP OFF and PICK UP Updates
Our district has partnered with Harris County to control car and foot traffic across the street. Please remind your scholar - if they are not staying for tutorials, go directly home and do not loiter near our business partners across the street.
Additionally, we are training crossing guards after spring break to improve the safety for walkers. If you are interested in volunteering, please call the school.
Our awesome cheerleaders performed at the Houston Rodeo on Friday 3/7 and represented Cypress Springs in a big way! Check out their performance and a photo below.

CFISD Deaf Education Program Offers In-Person Sign Language Classes
CFISD’s Deaf Education Program is excited to offer free, in-person Sign Language Classes for the Spring 2024-25 school year.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Location: Classes will be held at the Berry Center.
- Cost: Free and open to the public.
- PD Credit: Available for CFISD employees.
- Schedule: Six-week sessions are offered in both the Fall and Spring.
- Focus: Designed for entry-level/beginner skills and knowledge.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn a new language and connect with the Deaf community!
School Essentials
Dismissal and Safety Guidelines
Students not remaining after school for tutorials or other sanctioned events need to leave campus and go directly home.
Please do not allow students to congregate or wait for rides at our neighboring businesses across the street. Students should be picked up in the circle driveway in the front of the school.
Please help us keep all our scholars safe by following these important safety guidelines.
Afternoon Pickup
If you are picking up your scholar after school all pick ups take place from the front circle drive. Please do not use either of the front parking lots to pick up your scholar.
Please be aware that due to staff and student parking, as well as pedestrian traffic, driving for pickups and drop-offs in the parking lot can be very unsafe. Please drive safely!

Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook
Our goal at Cypress Springs is to provide a quality education in a safe and secure environment with limited distractions. Please see below for a few of the reminders for our students.
Cell Phones - are NOT allowed in the classroom nor during class time. All students have a CFISD device to access their classroom resources. After a warning, student cellphones will be confiscated a $15 fee will be charged, AND the parent will be required to come to the school to retrieve the cellphone.
Headphones are NOT ALLOWED in the hallways. Students may use headphones during lunch time (in the commons) only.
Quick Dress Code reminders:
- Dress for success / Dress like a SCHOLAR!
- Pajamas / pajama pants are not allowed
- All shirts / tops must cover midriff - no crop tops
- All pants must fit on the waist (no sagging)
- Shorts, skirts, dresses, holes in pants - all lengths must be MID-THIGH.
- Clothing must not display offensive language.
A full list of appropriate wear will be reviewed during code of conduct assemblies. The CFISD Student Code of Conduct has a full list as well.
Please read this important information regarding the laws on vaping and e-cigarettes. This is not only a health concern for our youth, but there are serious legal implications for our scholars when found in possession of these items.

Tutorials take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school from 2:45 - 3:45. Any student who remains for tutorials may stay for our FREE supper program.

VEX Robotics
Robotics Teams Shine at Regionals!
Two of our robotics teams competed in the VEX Regional Championship, making it to the eliminations bracket for the first time ever after a long two-day competition. Although we narrowly lost by just 1 point, it has been an incredible season!
🏆 4 out of 6 possible awards won this season
🎟 Both teams qualified for TSA State
With all but one student returning next year, we are excited to see what they accomplish in the future!
UIL Academics
We had an Academic UIL Invitational B, gaining valuable insight into who to watch for at Districts, Regionals, and State.

Congratulations to Senior Ayla McDowell as our first McDonalds All American!
The energy was electric as representatives from McDonald's and our District joined us to celebrate this historic achievement! The band, cheer team, Panteras, staff, and students all came together to honor Ayla in an unforgettable moment. A huge congratulations to Ayla and our coaches for this incredible honor!
Coaches of the Year!
We are proud to celebrate both our Girls and Boys Basketball Coaches for being named Coach of the Year! Their hard work, leadership, and dedication have driven our teams to success, making history for Panther Athletics. Congratulations to our outstanding coaches on this well-deserved honor!

Our Panthers WON on against Fort Bend Bush and against Paetow, bringing our record to 4-4! Lets Go Panthers!
Softball
Our Lady Panthers opened the season with an exciting first pitch from Dr. Henry! On 2/28, they battled to an 8-8 tie against Royal, then came back strong, dominating Alief Elsik 19-2! Great start to the season—way to go, Lady Panthers 🔥
Wrestling
Our Panthers had an outstanding performance at Regionals. Congratulations to our State Qualifiers!

State Meet Results
The Panther Wrestling team wrapped up an incredible season with our state qualifiers competing fiercely.
⭐ Timothy Merchant finished in the Top 8 at State and ended the season with an impressive 52-4 record.
⭐ Daphanee Merchant and Kennedy Alexander wrestled tough and finished their season strong.
This season was a huge success for our wrestling team, and they will continue to grow, compete, and make their mark. Congratulations to all! 🎉🏅

Our Boys Track team is dominating early in the season, bringing home multiple medals and earning the title of Team Champion at the Spring ISD Invitational Meet—way to go, Panthers!

Our track program also competed in the Damani Gibson Relays at Cy-Fair HS. Before the meet, athletes were inspired by a motivational talk from former Girls Track Coach Ruqayya Gibson, whose son, Damani, is honored through this event after passing away from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Our Girls Soccer team battled through frigid conditions, facing a tough 4-0 loss to Bridgeland. However, they bounced back with a 1-1 tie against Langham!
The momentum continued as they took on Cy Park, with JV winning 3-1 and Varsity securing a 2-1 victory!

Our Varsity Boys Soccer team secured an important 2-0 victory against Waller HS, with both goals scored by Chris Cruz! Despite facing tough conditions, they continued to fight hard throughout the week, falling to Bridgeland and Langham Creek (4-0) but showing resilience.

Boys Basketball
Panthers Made History with a Championship Season! 🏆
Our Panthers finished an incredible season, defying expectations after being preseason ranked 6th in the district. They delivered one of the best seasons in Panthers history, ending with a final record of 27-10.
Season Highlights:
🏆 Outright District Champions – Sealed with a victory over Bridgeland🏆 Bi-District Champions – Defeated Tomball Memorial
🏅 Three tournament trophy finishes
The F.I.G.H.T. continued at the Berry Center, where the Panthers secured a playoff victory over Tomball Memorial before concluding their season with a hard-fought battle against Willis (55-47).
We are so proud of our Panthers for their resilience, determination, and championship spirit! All Day, Every Day! 💙🐾

Lady Panthers Make History 🏀🐾
Our Girls Varsity Basketball team closed out the regular season as District Champs, finishing undefeated by beating every district team twice! Our JV Team also finished undefeated, proving that the future is bright for our Panthers!

Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Amanda Mahon, our 2025 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Mahon teaches and is our Team Leader for PACE. She has been an outspoken advocate for PACE for the past two years. As a PACE teacher she teaches her students how to set goals and prepare for their future - academically, personally, and socially. She additionally co-sponsors our Leading Ladies group and is our campus Quantum Learning Facilitator. We appreciate the many things Ms. Mahon does to support our school and our scholars! Congratulations Ms. Mahon!! Well deserved!
Classroom Paraprofessional of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Karen Slowinski for being named our 2024–25 Paraprofessional of the Year! As an In-Class Support paraprofessional, Ms. Slowinski works diligently to ensure her students succeed. She is always punctual, dedicated, and brings a warm smile to every assignment. We are truly blessed to have her on our team!
Clerical Paraprofessional of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Nancy Valle for being named the 2024–25 Clerical Paraprofessional of the Year! Ms. Valle plays a vital role in supporting our counselors and administrators in Admin South. She has a remarkable way of connecting with our scholars, providing them with the support they need when entering the office. Her calm voice, welcoming presence, and constant smile make a difference every day. We are grateful to have her on our team!
Support Staff Member of the Year
Congratulations to Ms. Zaida Guaman De Rodriguez for being named the 2024–25 Support Staff of the Year! Ms. Zaida Guaman De Rodriguez is our morning custodian. She arrives early and stays late whenever needed, always going where she is needed without hesitation or complaint. Her hard work ensures our building is well cared for throughout the day. We are truly grateful for all she does!
Alumni Spotlight-
Meet Brandon Nunn
Brandon Nunn is an alumni from the Class of 2016. He played Varsity basketball at Cypress Springs High School for 3 years, was a PAL for 2 years, was in National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. Brandon graduated top 6% of his class (in 2016)— then went to the University of Houston where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi and started a sports media company called Billionairevsns as a full time student (in 2017). Through his company, he has helped many athletes boost their recruitment potential and reach new heights publicly; this includes current high major collegiate athletes and professional. In 2023 his company was blessed to do the official NBA Hall of Fame release. Now he has published magazines and has a major documentary in the works.
