AACE- AthLEADERship Academy in Character Education
Student-athletes at Parkway West participated in our first session of Character Education training on Wednesday, October 2nd. Below are highlights from our time together.
The program they participate in is called AthLEADERship academy in Character education (AACE)
Session 1 focus was related to high standards.
AACE identifies 3 leadership standards
Compete Fiercely
Lead Boldly
Love strong
Using the 3 standards, students were asked to generate a list of characteristics that best fit into these 3 standards. When the list was created, students were then asked to identify the top characteristics they felt a good leader possesses.
Competing Fiercely: EFFORT & SPORTSMANSHIP
Leading Boldly: COMMUNICATION & RESPECT
Love Strong: PASSION & EMPATHY/INCLUSION
This activity really resonated with me. Students identified what they want to see in their coach each and every day.
We stressed to students that they are "Students of Influence." They were selected to be at these sessions for the impact they make within our school, teams and community.
Finally students were encouraged to use their "Authority of Influence," with teammates, classmates, and in their lives in general to best reach their potential as a LEADER at West High and beyond.
Our next session is December 4th, and I look forward to our next time together.
