Principal Message
Hello Waubesa Families,
Just a reminder that Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is this coming week, May 6-10. If you're thinking of a way to show your appreciation to your child's teacher(s), a simple "Email Appreciation" has tremendous value and is very meaningful.
Just a reminder of Personal Electronic Devices. The expectations at WIS are that students do not access their cell phones or other personal electronic devices (such as smart watches, etc.) during the school day. This can be a distraction to them and other students. If your child brings one of these devices to school, we ask that they turn it off when the day starts and leave it in their backpacks. If you need to contact your child during the day please call our school office, and they will pass along a message. We ask families to refrain from texting or calling your child’s cell phone to avoid distractions for your child and others. If your student needs to contact you for an urgent matter, they can ask their teacher for permission to come to the office and use our office phone to contact you.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Please reach out with any questions you may have.

Measles: Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please take some time to review the DHS news release article regarding a recent case of Measles in Dane county. Measles is a viral infection that causes fever, cough, a rash, sore eyes, and can lead to serious complications. Measles spreads very easily, so it is important to protect against infection. DHS - Measles Fact Sheet Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent measles. Two doses of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine provide the best protection against disease. These doses must be separated by at least 28 days. MMR vaccine is routinely recommended between 12-15 months and the second dose before entering school, at 4-6 years. Waivers to the state school requirements are available for religious, health, and personal conviction reasons. However, in the event of an outbreak of measles students with waivers may be excluded from school until the outbreak is declared over. It is important for you to check your child’s immunization records to make sure they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. You may check your child’s immunization record by logging on to the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). You may also see your child's school immunization record on Infinite Campus > Health. Your local health department, family health care provider or online health MyChart may also have your child’s immunization record. Please reach out to your primary care provider for questions.

Student Life Survey
In February of this year our students in grades 4-12 completed a survey to tell us about their experience as a student.
This is the first time we have administered this survey and we plan to have students complete the survey annually so we can use it to set goals and track our progress.
Some of the highlighted results for this year include:
Strengths:
Relationships with staff: 94% replied that their teachers treat them with respect and 89% replied that their teachers care about them
Relationships with students: 95% indicated they have friends who help them when they need help and 86% feel students treat them with respect (92nd percentile compared to other schools)
Relationships with family: 93% indicated their parents/guardians help them school
Safety: 93% feel safe at school
Participation: 83% participate in at least 1 school sponsored sports/co-curricular activity
Effort: 94% indicated they try their best at school and 93% indicated they like helping others
Areas of Growth
Liking school: On a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the highest, the average rating in response to the statement “Most days, I like my school” was a 6
Learning: Only 75% feel they can relate to what they are learning at school, only 71% feel safe answering questions in class even when they are not sure of the answer
Student behavior: Only 67% feel that most kids at school follow the rules
We will continue to use this information to guide our action plans at the building and district level.
If you would like to learn more about the results, please watch this video from the April 15 School Board meeting starting at minute 44:30
